Wiring 8.8 ford locking differential
2 wires to the ford locker. Assume 1 goes to ground and the other to switched power. Anyone know for sure? Made a nice installation for the 5 window on an S10, LS power. Thanks

Re: Wiring 8.8 ford locking differential

Yes, Like mentioned...I think you are referring to the speed sensor. Ford hasn't used an electric locker that I'm aware of either. Lorne

Re: Wiring 8.8 ford locking differential
if you are talking about the sensor on the front of the diff, up high above the pinion yoke and inline with the filler plug, then it is a speed sensor not a locker diff connection.
nice addition, the 8.8 is a strong diff. I would recommend a reinforced cover that has trunion bolts that bear down on the diff carrier bearing caps if you plan on big power and abuse. a buddy of mine had one in a mustang with a turbo'd LS engine and a 6 spd. big power and LOTS of abuse. the diff cover is the only add on he did for the diff and it held up no problem. |

Re: Wiring 8.8 ford locking differential
I need to do a better job on my homework. You are right in that the wires are for the sensor. The "L" on the tag identifies the differential as a limited slip not a locker. My F150 with trailer tow package does have an EL. The 5 window will have to live with the LS. Thanks

Re: Wiring 8.8 ford locking differential
The 6.0 should put about 400 to the wheels. It will not get a lot of abuse. I did weld the axle tubes. I have a 500hp LS in a 56 handyman with the stock rear end. When it gives up I will be looking for another 8.8.

Re: Wiring 8.8 ford locking differential
here is a link to the mark williams site that shows some modes done to an 8.8 for a higher HP vehicle. not saying you need to do all this stuff, jus putting it out there,
if you plan to weld the axle tubes there is a special rod to use so the two different metals meld and the chance of cracking later is less. also be cvarefull not to weld the whole thing at once or it may bend from heat/cooling you prolly already know this stuff but it is info for others as well sounds like you will have a nice build when you are done. |

Re: Wiring 8.8 ford locking differential
Thanks, I always learn something on these forums. The correct rod is low hydrogen. I can weld anything but the break of day and a broken heart.
