1966 GMC K15 suburban engine crossmember

Howdy,
I have a '66 GMC 4x4 suburban with no motor or trans.
I would like to install a GM 6.5L turbo diesel.

Any advice on where to get an engine cross member that will match up with 80s style clamshell motor mounts?

After market cross member for 4L80E would be helpful too.

Thanks

Re: 1966 GMC K15 suburban engine crossmember

I don't know how well it will work with the 6.5 diesel, but the only engine mount crossmember that uses the clamshell mounts that will be close to fitting is one out of a '73-'87 C10,20 or 30. There may be some modification necessary. As for the 4L80E, the mount will actually be under the transfer case adapter. So it will depend on what transfer case you use and what adapter. There again, a transfer case crossmember from a '73-'87 would be a good bet on fitting or at least be close enough to be easily modified.
