205 4wd Pivot bolt
Hey guys! First of all, I know its been a while since I got this bolt but I am just now getting around to installing it.....LOL.
This is also an extension of THIS discussion but I did not want to continue it in the "for-sale" section of the forum. I was doing a few odds and ends today and decided to slide under and install this bolt to get the rattle out of the 4wd shifter arm. Unfortunately it looks like I have the wrong bolt (I think). The one that came out was a 7/16" or 1/2" diameter bolt and the new one is like 11/16" or 3/4". There was a bushing and a metal sleeve on the shifter arm as mentioned in the other thread and I can remove them no problem so the new bolt will slide in. The issue is the casing is tapped for the 7/16" bolt and not the 3/4". Am I missing something or do I have the wrong bolt? Thanks for the help!

Re: 205 4wd Pivot bolt
Also, it looks like the guy in THIS thread had the same issue.
He had to drill and tap the adapter DO they not just sell the correct size pivot bolt? Did it come as a bushing/sleeve setup from the factory or did it have a wide shouldered bolt that didn't require the bushing?

Re: 205 4wd Pivot bolt
And according to THIS thread and parts sectional blow up, it looks like what I have currently in place is correct. The washers are not specified in the sectional but what I have is a flat washer and lock washer. I have a plastic grommet on each side of the shifter and a sleeve in the center.
Maybe my shifter is just wore out. Would have liked to use the new bolt with the grease fitting though.

Re: 205 4wd Pivot bolt
I've had mine out numerous times but I couldn't tell you the thread size/pitch. The head is 7/8"
It is shouldered like the big one above but without the grease port

Re: 205 4wd Pivot bolt
Mine is 5/8" head size, just basic bolt with sleeve and bushing. I am guessing I will just try to pick up a new bushing and sleeve and see if that works. If not, I will need a new shift lever I guess.

I have two trucks, one's a 70 Chevy, one's a 71 GMC, both 3/4 tons. They have different bolts, one's large & one's small

Re: 205 4wd Pivot bolt
This one is on my 71' GMC. I will check the 72' Chevy tomorrow and see what that has. The 72' is nice and tight, no wiggle in that one at all.
