1972 C20 trailer wiring
So the spid on my 72 C20 came with factory trailer wiring. So what does this entail? I found a plug strapped to the frame above the rear bumper.

Re: 1972 C20 trailer wiring
so this plug does not look like anything like a modern trailer plug as it is female and about 7\8 inch in diameter.

Re: 1972 C20 trailer wiring
I don't ever recall seeing a SPID which listed a "trailer wiring" option. The "camper wiring" option (code UY1) was fairly common. The wiring ran along the left side of the frame to the front of the bed where, according to the assembly manual, was to have been run up between the cab and bed, bundled and placed in the front left stake pocket. I don't recall mine being long enough to reach the rear of the truck, but it could be extended to reach the rear. It did not include any sort of connector on the end. It was left to the buyer to supply whatever type connector/plug they needed for their application. It included a 12V hot wire along with brake/turn signal, tail, and backup wires. This option is still available on today's trucks and routed the same way.
EDIT: The primary reason for the camper harness was/is to provide a connection point near the front of the bed for a slide in camper which normally has its harness near the left front of the camper. Last edited by FirstOwner69; 04-13-2017 at 02:17 PM. |

Ya that's the code I have. I will have to find the splice where the po added the wire to the back and remove it.
