I had the same problum ! Never really figured out what it was ! I changed the sending unit and the wire and the gauge stoped bouncing around ! A month later I tore the truck down, so all I know is it worked for that long ! Good Luck !

I got a new sending unit from LMC.
It sounds like you may not be getting a good ground. |

I have the same problem, but it only started after I replaced my instrument cluster bezel. I'm sure it's a ground issue, but I'm not sure where the cluster is supposed to be grounded to the dash.
Can somebody tell me where the ground is supposed to be connected? I don't know why I didn't note this when I pulled it out... Mike

I had the same problem I think with my 71. The gas needle would flucuate back and forth when driving. I put in a different gas gauge and the problem went away

I just assumed it was from gas sloshing around in the tank...
When I turn a corner it moves up and down as the gas moves to one side or the other. It stays pretty still when going straight.

Thanks Landon. I've tried attaching a wire from the metal housing to a screw that's in the bottom of my dash, but I guess i'll just try moving it around to different places.
