Super wide tires on rear?
What the widest tire and rim size I can fit on the rear (lwb) without messing with the frame? I will add wider tubs. I don't want them sticking out the sides though.

I'm putting 14" wide tires on the panel truck, hopefully on 11" rims. I just picked up a backspace gauge from a friend of mine the other day that he says works really good. My wheel tubs are widened almost to the frame. I just have to decide whether I want to use 5 bolt or 6 bolt wheels. I will be ordering new steel wheels so I can go either way. LockDoc

Re: Super wide tires on rear?
I sent two centers from 15x8 truck ralley wheels to California to be welded in a set of 12" wide blanks with 7" back spacing. I still have the bump stops on and didn't touch the frame. I widened my tubs to the frame. I mounted Mickey Thompson Sportsman 29x15x15 tires on the wheels and have plenty of room for the wider 14" wide wheels which are being done now. I'm going to mount the 31x18x15 with 8" back spacing on them. I will have to cut the bump stop off this time. These wheels slide over the stock brake drums with no problem. That look really cool when the chrome centers and beauty rings are installed. The only draw back I don't like is they are extremely heavy. I don't know how to post pictures here.

Does the e-brake cable get in the way?

Re: Super wide tires on rear?
Good point I would think looking at mine the E brake cable is going to need to be rerouted. Down in Ohio you should be able to find someone to make you up a set of wheels. Lot of good fabrication work done in your area.

Re: Super wide tires on rear?
I am running 15 x 12 inch wheels on the back of my 68, and a 29 x 16.50 Mickey Thompson. You can see them in my build thread for my 68

Re: Super wide tires on rear?
I bought the wilwood rear brake cables for mine, not sure if they would work on stock brakes though.

Re: Super wide tires on rear?
You can set it to the wheel diameter, wheel width, tire width, & tire diameter you want and it bolts to the face of the brake drum so you can set it to the back space that gives you the clearance you want all around.....
I am going to use it on the Panel Truck tomorrow, so I will post some pictures tomorrow evening. LockDoc

Re: Super wide tires on rear?
You can go up to a 18.5 on 12 " wheel with 7.5 bs. Mine mesure 15" wide on a 12" wheel with 6.5 bs. But mind you the 68 rear is narrower.

Re: Super wide tires on rear?
My e-brake is about 1 3/4 away with the 15x12 with 7 inch back space wheel and MT 29x15x15 Sportsman tire. That's why I can go to 15x14 with 8 inch back space. That would give me 3/4 inch of room.

Re: Super wide tires on rear?
Dependent on ride height and offset, you can really put on as wide as you want to go, if you want to know what you can fit between the frame and your fender, get out a tape measure and that's your number, then all thats left to do is get the proper offset to maximize that space.

Re: Super wide tires on rear?
I have a 72 swb, lowered 3 inches. What would the back spacing need to be for the 15x10s and or the 15x12s. Stock length 12 bolt rear. Havent decided fully on what i wanna do yet!

Re: Super wide tires on rear?
At least 7.5 for 12s. 72 rear is wider
