What other OEM steering wheels fit our trucks?
I've been thinking for awhile which steering wheel I'd like to put in my truck('72) since its missing one. I like both the 67-8 3-spoke and the later 69-72 style as well. While junk yarding I've wondered does say 60's impala wheel fit? etc? What other OEM wheels will swap out and maybe even look sharp in these trucks?
I personally have zero interest in aftermarket wood or billet style wheels. |

Re: What other OEM steering wheels fit our trucks?
No expert by any means but believe any GM steering wheel will fit up to the time of the air bag installs. The splined shafts are all the same up to that point. I have a steering wheel from a late 80's Pickup on my '71 4x4. Fits fine and is a bit smaller than the original 17" wheel. Good visibility thru the spokes for the instrument panel gauges. Good luck in the search.

Re: What other OEM steering wheels fit our trucks?
Here is your informative answer....
Any GM wheel will fit if it doesn't have an airbag, maybe some from before the 1950's would not but you wouldn't want those anyway. Actually I bet that even airbag wheels will fit except most if not all are not round where they meet the column. The best fitting wheels are from original cars or trucks with steering columns that do not have a key on them. Those wheels are slightly larger diameter where they meet the column, 1/8" or so, not very noticeable but when seen side by side the earlier wheels fit noticeably better. |

Re: What other OEM steering wheels fit our trucks?
Didn't you say what I did, only longer? Pretty much any GM wheel that you would want in these trucks. Airbag wheels are ugly modern out of place looking and pre-50s, as mentioned, you probably wouldn't want.
I think the 88-94 truck wheels work great on these columns. I prefer the '60s car wheels with horn ring. I've run a bunch of Sport Grips. My '67 with have a '67 Impala wheel with a modified GMC Super Custom horn button. When the plan was for a red interior I had a mid-60s red wheel with horn ring. Not sure what car, but pretty sure a base model. It didn't have the 4 chrome rings in the rim and it had the Chevy Crest...which I preferred for a GMC since it doesn't say Chevrolet.

I was thinking of a nice way to say the same thing. I will try to post a picture of a cushion grip wheel from a 69-75 corvette mounted on the hub from a column with the key and a hub without the key to show the difference in how they fit, its the best example of the difference since the wheels are the same and only the mounting hub is different. |

Re: What other OEM steering wheels fit our trucks?
It sounds as though I have many options then. Id like something Gm from the 60's preferably. All of your help is appreciated. Thanks for the pictures too!

Re: What other OEM steering wheels fit our trucks?
Wheels from cars made in 68 and earlier will match up better to your pickup column. Once the key was put in the column in 69 (cars only) the diameter of the column increased and the steering wheel hubs were increased to match.

Re: What other OEM steering wheels fit our trucks?
No need to get ugly, Willie. And no need to be so touchy, Randy. I could be touchy as you and say all members' replies have been informative and that was a smartass remark you made. I left that smiley in hopes of lightening up my comment. It was a friendly smartass comment. Just keeping it simple. GM wheels swap, that's a fact. Virtually any. Any that don't, you wouldn't want... too modern with air bag even if it fit or so old the style wouldn't fit and way harder to find in good condition or cheaper than an original, which I said but you chose to leave that out of your quotes as well. We used to all get along, try giving it a shot

And if this goes any further it will get the OP's thread closed, so can it. I have a '64 Chevy truck wheel on my '67 with the '64 horn button and I like it. Thanks, LockDoc

I have a 70's Vega wheel that's my lucky wheel, had it in several trucks and cars.
