Hood latch spring
the PO of my (new to me) '71 C20 took the spring out of the hood latch to keep people from stealing his battery. I can't seem to locate another one and I can't seem to even figure out how to look for it. Can anyone guide me to the right place?

Re: Hood latch spring
But this thread says there was never a spring. Can anyone confirm?

You may be talking about two different springs. That thread is making reference to a spring around or close to the latch pin that hangs down from the hood and pops the hood up when you release the latch. I have seen them bolted to the core support on different vehicles also, but '67-'72 GM trucks never had them. The latch itself has a coil spring inside the latch that returns the latch handle and engages the safety catch. I'm not sure what spring you could remove that would keep someone from opening the hood. Here are a couple of threads about hoods not popping up and latch springs. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...ad.php?t=71896 Huck’s method Post #4 http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=541980 Franks method Post #10 Just because one of them may help you. Re: Hood latch spring
Yes I was referring to a pop-up spring. Sounds like the guy that sold me the truck doesn't know what he's talking about.
In any case, my hood doesn't pop-up. It mush be "massaged" up if that makes sense. Does anyone have any guidance on how to return the pop? New hood springs I guess? |

Re: Hood latch spring
I was having problems with the hood popping open. I changed the four rubber bumpers (or whatever they are called) that the hood rests upon. My old bumpers lost all of the rubber characteristics and were no longer springy. Now the hood pops right up.
