Re: Any word on 67-72 hubcaps reproduced?
I have been wondering about this for years! I never expect to see my oddball 67 GMC 2500 caps reproduced, but I run a nice set of the '73 style because I went with newer type wheels (bumps instead of clips). I think the '69-'72 style would sell well, they are close enough to the '73-'77 style I bet a lot of those guys would buy them too.

Re: Any word on 67-72 hubcaps reproduced?
seems like there ought to be a market for them, presumably your talking half tone trucks.I look at the market and there seems to be plenty, even NOS 69 and later hubcaps. but not so many 67-68 caps but still plenty enough that they are not scarce. The problem is compatability with existing rims.
try looking for 68 3/4 ton hubcaps...... |

Re: Any word on 67-72 hubcaps reproduced?
There is no doubt a market for both size caps. I just looked at a booth with some new reproduction releases... by the association undr SEMA that is formed of repro mfgrs and they are now (or about to) make '62 Chevy car, late '60s (what people call COPOs, and one other Chevy cap. No truck caps and ast I talked to the biggest reproducers they had no plans...but that's been a year or two.

If the big box store vendors are smart, and they often are, they'll wait til a good set costs about what tow hooks costs these days (almost there), then they'll produce em for 1/10th of that cost and sell em for half that price.

Re: Any word on 67-72 hubcaps reproduced?
There is certainly profit to be made at what perfect examples go for on Ebay now. There are also more of these trucks running, or wanting to have, hubcaps than most earlier years they felt were profitable. There are more out there and it's the look we want. I see most '40s-'50s trucks run custom wheels if they aren't stock. And most aren't stock that I see.
I see them, if produced, going for far less than a perfect OEM example now. They'll want to be selling the heck out of them if they do put them out. I'm thinking the sixty-seventy buck range would work. Wheel Vintiques makes the wheels, so a smart business person should consider the hubcaps people want for them. They aren't GM-only wheels (8-lug), but most running CK20/30s want that look. I'd think for the 69-75 caps the 8-luggers would be a smart start. 1/2t caps are more plentiful and many owners go with custom wheels more on those.

Re: Any word on 67-72 hubcaps reproduced?
I think another factor that may drive eventual production of reproduced caps is the popularity of large diameter steel wheels. As mentioned above, there never really was a market for caps because everyone was ditching their stock wheels for billets, mags, aluminum wheels, etc. and just tossing the old steelies to the curb. Now that there are the steel wheels that people want to throw caps on again, all of a sudden cap prices are starting to go through the roof.

Re: Any word on 67-72 hubcaps reproduced?
I'm guessing a set of four will go for $200-220 if reproduced, just like the 66 caps. And, of course, they'll only repro the 1/2 tonners, driving the 3/4 ton originals even further thru the roof...

Re: Any word on 67-72 hubcaps reproduced?
I'm surprised that nobody makes them, given that this is a part that could be lost or fall off, I find myself surprised how many parts you can buy for these old trucks that when there is one you can't it seems strange I guess there is not enough money in producing them.

I paid $1500 for my '70 3/4T GMC NOS set. Which I like to bring up and every now and then so that people can flame me for it, but like you said... try looking for them!

Re: Any word on 67-72 hubcaps reproduced?
Yep, I think GMC caps are in a league of their own when it comes to available originals. When you doing a full blown re-do like yours, it would not look right with the caps I bought for $40. Ha.

Re: Any word on 67-72 hubcaps reproduced?
...are we all on the same page here in terms of what hubcaps we are referring to?
Maybe post up a quick pic of the hubcap(s) in question so we can all relate to them. When I think of the 67-72 hubcaps I always end up thinking about the full disc ones...but there are, what?....a half dozen types or sizes? I'm not quite sure...given the fact that some of the hubcaps were still found on mid 70's trucks, etc. all Good Coley

Re: Any word on 67-72 hubcaps reproduced?
Well, hubcaps are what people call poverty caps or dog dish, and then there are wheel covers that people call hubcaps. Good point about being on the same page with the same cap. I was thinking 67-72 in general, which would be two styles. I imagine they would only do the chrome/stainless. I think the 3/4-1t caps would be a wise move. You would see them flow into the squares and later, as well as a good alternative for earlier 8-luggers. Swapped over caps was a popular thing back before mags showed up on the street. Older trucks end up with later wheels as it is

Yeah I need the chrome ones. Well, thats what my truck came with originally anyways. Rocking copos now cause they are so much cheaper.

Re: Any word on 67-72 hubcaps reproduced?
Something cool to make would be 67/68 style nub style for 8-luggers.

Re: Any word on 67-72 hubcaps reproduced?
Yeah, I'm referring to the standard painted and chrome 1/2 ton caps for 67-72, not full wheel covers. The 67-68 mostly because these two years are certainly the hardest to come by. Be great if the aftermarket could branch out to three-quarter ton caps of various stripe but I would be amazed if that ever happens.
Crossing my fingers on that, unless that happens I still need one more 67/68 restorable painted cap......... Steve weim55 Colorado |

It seems hard to narrow down the exact cap for the exact year...at least to me. Or were the white/red cheaper caps for the base model truck then the silver caps for the CST trucks? What does a 69/70' hubcap look like vs. these ones? (....not including the full disc stainless jobs) All good Coley

Re: Any word on 67-72 hubcaps reproduced?
I'm not as up to speed on my 69-72 caps but they are all based on the same shape cap which is different from the 67-68 caps. I think they started out argent silver in 69 like the 68 caps but then changed to white not too long after. They used the same caps for the first few years of the '73-up trucks but with a yellow bowtie.

Re: Any word on 67-72 hubcaps reproduced?
I guess I'm the outlier and don't think it's too hard to scare up the 69-72(75) caps and if need be the brass/chrome examples can be straightened and replated or painted examples chromed.
Here's a set of four GMC 3/4 t stainless caps on eBay now (Chevy examples and 1/2t in GMC and Chevy also now on eBay): http://www.ebay.com/itm/GMC-JIMMY-PI...1ZDTv-&vxp=mtr
