A few questions about my new k10 project?
How do I tell what the original paint scheme was?
Also, is there a good way to clean this original spid? A bit of info on it, it's a 69 GMC, it's all white with saddle trim now. There is evidence of red on the top and bottom of the bed and fenders. |

Re: A few questions about my new k10 project?
All white with the saddle trim, but that almost looks like a repop spid, as there is no vin stamped into the spid. pics of the truck itself???

Re: A few questions about my new k10 project?
Just like the spid says, white with saddle trim. The red was added at some point.
I don't know of a good way to clean the label. Looks like yours is original and in 69 there wasn't the clear over the top to preserve them.

Re: A few questions about my new k10 project?
I hadn't thought of more than one layer of paint, that makes sense now.
The white that's on it is in great shape, gonna keep it for a while. Another question, This is the torque mount and I'm supposed to take it off correct? Some more truck porn pics, enjoy and thanks for the quick responses. |

Great Looking Truck!
I would like more pics of the front bumper and grill with the brush guard. That looks like what my son has in mind for ours. (70 GMC K2500)

I haven't tried it yet, it's a pto driver winch. Pto said it worked just fine. I think it's really cool!
I'll get a few more picks tomorrow. |

Yep that's the side mount that supposedly causes lots of grief. I've never had a problem with them. I've taken the last two off before I had a problem. Really nice looking 4 eye you've got there!

A few more pics. It's in the prices of getting a carb rebuild.

Re: A few questions about my new k10 project?
white with saddle is a GREAT combo, congrats, that's a real nice truck. Member chipflyer can repro you a brand new SPID. I'd keep that sucker stock, even to the point of replacing the square body rallies for some steelies. That's a nice one, congrats again!
Question: what sort of problem is that side mount rumored to be causing? I'm not familiar. Can't see how it might hurt, unless it's causing cracks if the case flexes in rough terrain?? Would seem to be a bit of a trade-off to remove it, but who knows. Interested, am not familiar with this issue. Last edited by jocko; 05-05-2017 at 09:37 AM. |

Re: A few questions about my new k10 project?
I have read here in the 4x4 section that it's exactly like you said, not enough give when the engine rotates under torque. It's apperantly cracking the trans/transfer adapter. I haven't taken it off yet, still rebuilding the ignition and carb.

Re: A few questions about my new k10 project?
Huh! Never occured to me that was the problem. I had a 71 swb 4X4 where the adaptor was cracked and leaking. Truck didn't come with the side brace so I got a new GM adaptor and a used side brace thinking the adaptor cracked because there wasn't a brace.
That's a very nice truck you have! |

Re: A few questions about my new k10 project?
Yep supposedly it kills the adaptor. Most square body 205s aren't even drilled for the side mount. There's plenty of reading on this site and others.
