1971/72 K10 core support bolts

back to a little wrenching. Hard to find the time.

Have a new parts kit for core support mounting. includes the carriage bolts, sqaure washers and some type of lock nuts.

Can't seem to get these tightened up. Bolt and upper square washer spin instead of nut tightening. square washer supposed to keep carriage bolt from spinning but square washer smaller than area is sits in. Nuts also do not seem to work right.

Don't think its just a 4x4 issue. Always had trouble removing old ones with spin, rust, etc but these parts are new.

Whats the trick. It must be simple.

Re: 1971/72 K10 core support bolts

I just went through this a bit ago.
My body mount kit came with nylon lock nuts I guess it's a good thing but wow were they tight.

I locked my bolts into the vise an with a drop of oil ran the nuts on and off with the drill to help loosen up the fresh nylon and give it some threads.

Then reinstalled them still was a pita too push down the carriage bolt head too keep it from spinning and tightening the nut at the same time.
Sorta a awkward position to do so but these trucks have a way of getting your body in a awkward postions.

I have in the past made a rectangle washers from strap steel and tacked it too the bolt head too keep it from spinning too.

Re: 1971/72 K10 core support bolts

thanks for the reply and telling me I'm not crazy.

Why can't I swap a bolt with head for carriage bolt to use a wrench on top of? Also a regular nut with lock washer? Are these bolts more critical that others? I don't want any bolts coming loose but this design seems cracked up unless I'm missing something.
