Finished My Shop Clock

Hope this works as am on a new desktop with Windows 10 and also using a new memory card reader.

This clock started out as a really beat up, rusted cap with numerous dents, dings and rusty faded paint. No way to make it useable on a truck so since it could not be hurt much more decided to experiment some. Started doing some body and fender massaging of the metal, bead blasted it, worked the metal a bit more and got it to where I thought I could at least live with it. Primed then painted the entire cap white. Let that several days to dry and then masked over the white to paint the black with a semi-gloss. Let dry several days and masked those sections to paint the blue, used Krylon True Blue gloss. Found an old battery operated clock at a yard sale which worked, gutted the clock for the mechanisim. Used some old rusted bolts I had laying around and shortened with a die grinder. Used larger for 12-3-6-9, smaller for the remaining numerals. Drilled the holes after plotting the positions for them and mounted using plumbers putty. Solid but able to remove if I found something else I liked better. Lightly sanded, primed and painted the hands Chevrolet Orange as could not see them to well with the original black against a black background. The masking procedure worked well enough to mount the clock on the wall at a distance but not for a hubcap restore usage for sure. Edges are too sharp. Anyway, when it was all done and put together decided it looked pretty good for a garage clock and save an old part from the scrap pile. Any comments on it as in Yea or Nay?

I think it looks great, I can tell you put a lot of time in it. I think it would be easier to read if the hands were long, but sometimes we just have to use what we have. Nice Job!!!!

Too beat up for the real thing? You described my restoration process to a T, except I powdercoated them white, and painted as you did. I'd say they're good "5 footers" lol! Mine's a survivor though, not a show truck, so I'm happy!

But that is a cool idea for an old cap. I'd say it turned out great. Nice job!

I love it, very creative, if I had to critique I agree with above, longer hands. Maybe you could recover some other parts to add to the hands

I like it .A while back I bought 300 hubcaps on Clist and sold a bunch at swapmeets and still have a lot piled up in my shed. I made about 6 clocks for sale at the swap meets that did not sell .Had a buddy ask me if I was going to poke holes in all the other hubcaps and I said yes if they sell. He came over and bought all the hard to find ones before I could poke any more holes in them .I made dang good money on those hubcaps and still sitting on a bunch .

Thanks for all the replies. Kind of wished I had used a better cap as when you look at it close I didn't massage ALL the light dimples out but for a wall hanging it will work. I do agree the clock hands need to be longer but the ones I used will have to do until I can find a longer set. All in all pretty pleased with it. May try another clock design in the future, have a stainless hubcap from a 62 Impala that would make a cool clock. My BIL thinks I need to make that one for him, LOL.
