Help with choosing engine swap

I've got a lead on two 350s for my 83 k10.

350 tbi
350 vortex

I'd use tbi on both of them. I'd have to acquire a intake for the vortec, and get the vacuum stuff figured out.

I've had trucks with both engines and love the vortec but also like the ease of setting up the tbi setup.

Anyone with thoughts pros and cons?

Or should I just saw f-it and put a 4th ls powered beast in the garage.

I went with an ls motor because of the amount of effort for the fuel injection swap and cost. I have spent a bit more then I planned but I am happy with the outcome.

i too would love the LS swap over both of those.

but i would be bias and pick the TBI. i been daily driving a 1990 chevy for the past 7+ years. its been the most amazing trouble free motor i ever had. i even have to keep checking the tach at red lights cause it runs so smooth i keep thinking it shut off.

i recently bought a 91 parts truck to steal the motor out for my 1952 chevy im building.

Re: Help with choosing engine swap

The vortec L31 is a better choice in my opinion. You get 1) better vortec heads, 2) roller cam setup vs the flat tappet in the TBI 3) like 50 more hp over the TBI and I assume the torque band is better too 4) 4-bolt main block - but not really sure this is a big deal at this power level anyways.

I almost, almost did the L31 into my 87' with TBI, but I rebuilt mine instead, just wanted to learn how to rebuild my engine, otherwise I would have done an L31 crate.

You will probably need to have the TBI ECM flashed if you do use the vortec engine, it won't just plug and play. I went with EBL Flash for the ECM part, learning curve is steep but once you figure it out its not bad. A WB O2 sensor helps a lot.

I built a 355 vortec for my truck but realized LS is really the most efficient route to take.

If youre not too deep into that decision you may want to consider an LS. Regardless of how tightened up the SBC 350 is chances are its going to leak. For the amount you will spend on the 350 upgrading may be your best option.
