Just got my 65 home drove her from Oklahoma to Alberta
Bought this 65 from down in Oklahoma was long bed originally but had owner cut it down to short. Getting harder to find them up here especially a short bed so took a chance an bought it and the wife and I flew down and drove it back over 2000 miles she never missed a beat . Guy did decent job on the chop and mechanically truck is good . Electrical an wiring another story. All I had was headlights, one brake light an oil pressure nothing else worked was interesting trip home I was little pissed to say the least when told lights and wiring are fine etc . Anyways turned out to be a good trip through 7 states an two provinces. Now time for some repairs an mods

SA-weeet! Truck looks good. Hopefully the law didnt give ya too much trouble with the lights. How long did the drive take? What kinda drivetrain? Nice, big back window too!

Re: Just got my 65 home drove her from Oklahoma to Alberta
Thx! Has a 350 in it an 2 spd powerglide not sure of gearing I think 3:73 I got decent mileage around 17 mpg. Grabbed a tire wrench, jack an few odds and ends first town dumped oil an some slick 50 changed front wheel bearings an hammer down. Tried to fix the wiring to rear tail lights first night but rear harness was so hacked same with everything under dash just a rats nest of hacked and unconnected wire everywhere. No signals no wipers . I just stopped driving around dusk every night. Took us 4 days took our time stopped lots little shopping etc keep wife happy lol was nice drive especially through parts of OK an Arkansas an Missouri. Takes 72 hours now for the export paperwork to get processed for border crossing so was no point in rushing it .

Nice trip. Glad you had no major breakdowns. Thats the nice thing on these trucks they are pretty simple to work on and you can still find lots of parts for them. Wife must be a keeper to fly down and drive 2000 miles on an untested truck but my wife would also enjoy a trip like that. More fun and cheaper than having it shipped.

Matching paint on the wagon.
Wiring shouldn't be too difficult to sort out. Get out the diagram and do it one piece at a time. Got a 700R4 in its future? |

Re: Just got my 65 home drove her from Oklahoma to Alberta
Did a few upgrades since I brought her home thought I'd post few pics. Got all electrical sorted out new windshield, new rear seal for back window, new door seals, door pins , window felts, regulators, steering wheel , rebuilt column, reupholstered seat, disc brakes, brake booster , drop spindles, springs , rear bags, shocks , pan head bar, power steering, ball joints, e brake, horn, lots small stuff then got a guy to cut me up some oak and just finished wood in the bed . Calling it good for now but tempted to swap in a built up 350 that was in my Chevelle or wait an do an ls swap not sure yet . She drives an handles like a new truck now

I have that upholstery in my truck- nice. I like the OEM hubcaps, too.
