Clicking noise behind dash when accelerating
Gents,
First post! Unfortunately I have to start it off with an issue. Does anyone have any prior experience with this specific issue? On my 1971 C10 350/350 combo When accelerating from a stop a loud clicking noise from what seems behind the dash area. Also when it clicks the truck will hesitate.??? I've checked out the relays, flywheel, general inspection and cannot find anything to be the cause. It doesn't do it every time; very intermittent. Thanks for the help guys. |

Re: Clicking noise behind dash when accelerating
Have you checked your speedometer cable? It can be noisy when it's spinning without lube. That won't have anything to do with the truck hesitating though.

X2 on the speedo cable needing lube.
Check the near wiring to make sure the speedo cable jacket hasn't worn through any creating a short as it wobbled.

Re: Clicking noise behind dash when accelerating
Check your left motor mount, it could be allowing the motor to lift and the fan blade to hit the shroud. The hesitation would then be the carb linkage binding.

Re: Clicking noise behind dash when accelerating
Clicking could be due to a burnt plug wire. The arc from the burnt wire to whatever it is grounding on will make a clicking sound. This would also account for the hesitation. When its clicking, its arcing, and you essentially have a dead cylinder.

Re: Clicking noise behind dash when accelerating
Check the wires on your ignition switch that could be shorting out against the firewall or the dash. That will make it hesitate because it shorts the ignition. The clicking you are hearing could be the sparking when it's happening.
Also check your fuse block for shorts.

Re: Clicking noise behind dash when accelerating
When someone joins and their single, only-ever post is to ask a somewhat obscure troubleshooting question I doubt they ever come back to follow it up. We'll see however, maybe this one is an exception!

Re: Clicking noise behind dash when accelerating
I had a similar issue and it turned out to be speedo cable. I took the dash out and subsequently the cable and lubed out. Then took it out of the cable sheath and lubed with dry graphite. It fixed the issue. I had an erratic speedo as well when this was happening. If that's not it and the engine runs well then I'd be checking for an exhaust leak.
