Mounting a Step-up to help Passengers get in
The old 71 is too high for my lady friend to get in and out without help. I would like to fabricate a 'step' on the passenger side, and need ideas on where to mount it. I'm thinking bolting it to the floor or rockers is a bad idea (Thin sheetmetal). Anybody have pictures or instructions on how to mount a step that bolts to the frame siderail? Aren't there aftermarket companies that make a helper step for our trucks?
Thanks. |

Looks like that bolts to the back of the rocker panel? My frame rail is a long way back from the lower edge of the body ... my rockers are not in that good of shape to support weight.

Bolt it to the frame. Your initial concern is correct, dont bolt it to the sheet metal.
Never bolt a step to sheet metal, only the frame. aside from just "carrying weight" which the sheet metal cant do, your also adding a long arm and putting the weight out on the end like a leverage bar, it wont take too long to tear your floor apart. Look at this blazer thread, long tubes welded to flat plats bolted to the frame should work. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=220475 They show something like this, this is how you want to mount it... |

Re: Mounting a Step-up to help Passengers get in
from the photo, that looks like the Dee Zee Universal step
https://www.deezee.com/product/universal-nerf-bars/ I am guessing that the photo from the other thread is the 32" version, it looks like its only maybe 24" but I only saw 32" or 64" on their sight.... https://jet.com/product/Dee-Zee-DZ37...9488aa5e2d81c2 |
