Emissions-PASS!!!!!
woohoo, I finally passed. Amazing, how bad it had to run to pass the test. I retarded my timing by about 8 degress and readjusted the idle mixture screws. Passed with flying colors, brought it home and readjusted everything back to where it was before the test. High hydrocarbons was the failure, 900 gram threshold and I was running 1133 grams. After adjustment, 154 grams. What a relief!!! Had two previous failures and they suspend your drivers license if failure to comply. Illinois, the land of lincoln and bureaucratic bull@#$&.

1. IL is an industrial state. 2. The Fed gov't told IL it had to lower emmissions because of acid rain in the eastern states, or loose it's Fed $$$. 3. State legislators had to choose between making the industrial giants clean up or the driving public. 4. Because the industrial giants could lobby and argue higher costs/lost jobs, the legislature put the onus squarely on the little guy because he had no voice. I think if the Feds had stayed out of it, IL would not be in this situation (of course I'd have no paint on my truck either) BTW, I'm glad you passed. Having to make your vehicle run poorly for the test then readjusting it proves how misguided the law is regardless of it's intent.

Back when Oklahoma had the inspection (2 years ago) it was only $5. I still have the inspection sticker on the windshiled of my Isuzu Rodeo.. I think it may be a collectors item!

I love rual Missouri....NO emissions whatsoever!
I could run a supercharged methanol burning big-block on the street and it would be kosher I hear they have smog checks up arond St. Louis, but they sure don't down here in the Ozarks. Good thing too....i higly doubt my high-compression, richley-jetted small block would pass any kind of emission test...the only half way smog part i run is a PCV valve

I sold a 73 chevy about 5 years before I bought my 71 and one of the big reasons I went with it was the lack of big brother looking over my shoulder. No requirements on pre '73 as Boraxman said in California. I get to do what I want........amazing is this the U.S.A. land of the free or what (what most of the time).

shhhhhh dont say it twice, it may come back. They stopped safety inspections in about 1982. They started smog testing in Dade and Broward counties about 1990 and stoped a few years ago. I wouldn't mine safety inspections comming back. There are some real sh*t boxes out there that should be taken off the road before they hurt a member of my family or friend. My wife had to have major back surgury when some loser in a dually pulling a lawn trailer couldn't stop for a red light and t-boned her Honda. The trailer had its brakes dissabled and the trucks brakes where metal to metal. My wife sufferd for years because of all the back pain. |

I live 30 miles from St. Louis and there still is emission testing. My truck is a 69 so I am excempt. 1971 and up has inspections on emissions. Thats why I would never by one of these trucks newer then 1970 for me.

Hmmm. I live near Champaign and have never heard of anyone having any type of emission testing. Even on the new cars. Is the regulation by county?
Strange that it would only occur in portions of the state if it is a State rule. I'm sure my 68' with it's 396 would fail. Great.

Here in Pa,we have emmission testing in the Philadelphia area, and the Pittsburg area. Not sure what year the break is,might be pre 75.Everyone needs a once a year saftey inspection. Our testing and safteys are done by private garages. If my mechanic knows You and your car will not pass emission he puts his car on the tester and puts your info in.

I had my van inspected last week.Took 2 hour. The truck in front of me was being emission tested.Had a locking gas cap.The owner of the truck gave my mechanic the cap[it must be tested to]and the keys to his truck to one of his employee's,and leaves for a meeting in Philly.Glenn finnished the test and asked the employee for the caps key.He said oops it is not on the ring it is in the bosses pocket.Had to wait for the guy to come back with the key.

kxmoto, check out the website. it appears that it is based on zip code and not county. i live in the 60446 zip and a town about 10 miles away with zip of 60447 does not need test, same county.

Wow. Thanks. I guess I didn't see the link.
I guess I'm okay for right now. No telling how long it'll take till the regulation moves into this area.
