Upper control arm hardware kit?
I found the oversized U bolts for the lower control arms but I am having a hard time finding upper control arm mounting bolts....
Anyone have a link or a part number for them?

Re: Upper control arm hardware kit?
Is there a problem with yours? Unless damaged, they don't normally get replace and the uppers don't have the major load on them like the lowers do.

Re: Upper control arm hardware kit?
Well in looking, keep in mind these are splined shank, not normal bolts. They press into the upper mount. I know they are available but don't recall where I have seen them. You might check a local alignment shop, if you can't find them.

Re: Upper control arm hardware kit?
I would think suspension parts are grade 8

Re: Upper control arm hardware kit?
If you want to replace the studs for the upper control arm mounting, I think you may have to buy them from GM. Personally I wouldn't worry about replacing them unless they are damaged. I would though get new all steel locking nuts for them.

Re: Upper control arm hardware kit?
I think this is what I am going to do. I'm just anal about using new parts so it's a "new" truck

Re: Upper control arm hardware kit?
Another Question...
Bought new nuts and lock washers for the upper control arms. The only thing I can find locally is grade 5 since they are fine thread. Is grade 5 fine for the upper control arms? Can I use a lock washer or do I Have to go back with something like the original lock type nut?

Re: Upper control arm hardware kit?
Ideally you want "top lock" nuts. The last couple threads are deformed so it's a mechanical locking. Split washers can lose their tension and allow them to loosen.
That said, I am sure there are 10's of 1000's of cars/trucks running around with regular nuts/lock washers. Grade 5 is okay for the top arms, as they don't see a heavy load but I tend to use Grad 8 for everything.

Re: Upper control arm hardware kit?
Would you happen to have the size on the nuts for the upper control arm? I need to replace mine upon re-installation of the arms due to corrosion.
Thanks! |
