Got my carb on today! ( finally)

I bought a Carb. from Longhornman, A 1406 Edelbrock. I received it very fast, and It's been a couple of weeks now, and I haven't had a chance to work on the truck, Today we took a couple of hours, between working on clocks,( my side work to have truck money) I installed the carb, and grandson hit the key. Fired right up, took a couple of seconds to get the carb. full of fuel, then I let it idle. I had to adjust the idle ( I'm running a cam, it idles right at 1000 rpm.) adjusted the air bleed jets, and hit the throttle. Instant response. I may have to do some fine tuning on it for my engine, But IT WAS EVERYTHING ANDY SAID IT WAS, ( There never was any doubt !)

It's right down to no excuse not to get it to the front end shop and hit the streets.

the carb was used, I got it new in 2001 if memory serves...that would only be 20,000 miles at the very most. I don't leave the house except for work.
Ron, I am glad you are satisfied with the carb. You may need to mess with teh step up pistons and the springs, as it ran richer than crap on my cammed out small block too. (I'm getting almost double MPG witha bigger carb now...I installed a 750 Edelbrock carb) It has smaller than stock jets in it, but I'll be damned to remember what size they are.

I pulled the metering rods just for the heck of it, and pulled the ones out of my old Carter, The ones in the Edelbrock are much bigger then the ones in my Carter,( less fuel through the jets) I could smell raw fuel, I will probably do some tinkering. I didn't pull the top off though, to check the jets. I'll get into that at a later date. I want to buy one of those Air To fuel ratio gauges. I see many different ones on the market. I will especially want it when I get around to installing the Tunnel Ram.

I let the Truck sit for an hour after I installed the carb. I hit the key, it fired first revolution, and idled without hesitation or jumping. NO COMPLAINTS HERE>>> And it sure beats the holley 2 bbl. and adaptor I had on it.
