Hello neighbor, best information is found on the original SPID located inside the glovebox, if it's still there. It will list the custom camper option. A lot of things could have happened through the years to deviate it from original. Fender emblems and door scripts saying custom camper will help figure it out also. The custom campers I've seen will also have extra wiring running along with your tail light wiring harness inside of frame rail from cab. The extra wring is for a camper on the bed or for a camping trailer. If you can post some pics, the guys on here can help you figure it out.

No emblems left and spid is faded. Did have 2 trailer light plug ins but idk if one original.

1/2 ton custom campers are said to exist. I've only seen them in the C20/K20 models myself.

Drew3, it would be hard to tell without the SPID. Maybe someone else on here will know another way to check.

Yes, 1/2 to cc's do exist. Without a SPID and no nameplates (fender nameplates on a 69-71), it's not possible to tell for sure without a build sheet as the Z81 option only provided the nameplate if certain options were present (in other words, the presence of all the suspension stuff, even the camper mirrors and camper wiring do not make it a Custom Camper - only the Z81 RPO does). Are there any emblems on your FENDERS? Custom Campers in 69-71 had a fender nameplate - only 72 (chevs) had the Custom Camper script above the door handle.

Here's a CustomCamper10 ala 69. 70/71 would have same fender emblem. 66-68 has the CustomCamper in a box emblem and 65 had a one-off.

Any ideas on reading a faded spid? Could anyone post a photo of a custom camper trailer light plug? Does it matter if a truck is coil or leaf spring?

Post your SPID, there are magical ways to enhance... Is there something that makes you think your truck is a Custom Camper? While C10s do exist, they are quite out of the ordinary. The camper plug isn't just for lights - and it comes up between the cab and bed to connect to the front of an old camper. There are some pics on here if you google it on the site. FirstOwner has some great factory pics of the harness also. Keep in mind, the presence of camper wiring, even the UY1 RPO wiring harness, don't make the truck a Custom Camper. In reality, it's quite possible to have a highly optioned, very capable camper rig that has all the capability of a Custom Camper - without the Z81 option, it's kinda just "for show" as the option gives you only a nameplate. It's still very cool.

My 69 is a 1/2 ton (GMC 910, Canadian) It has the custom camper badge by the door handle. It is light duty all around, coil spring, 307/t350. I added power steering and brakes. The sway bar on the spid was seperate. I think I remember reading that it was a bit fancier interior. Mine has the saddle interior with the scroll work on the seats and door panels.

I think you got a trailer plug at the dealer and not from the factory

Here is my spid. It does show cust-something- conv. Equip. Z-??and camper nameplate something ?81 at the bottom. I see now it does have HD front springs and HD rear as G50 but I thought that was for leaf spring? It is fairly legible for being so scribbled up

Cody, your last option, Z81, is what makes your truck a Custom Camper. The Z62 is Custom Comfort and Convenience, just the trim level option. G50 is an HD coil. G70 is rear leaf.

The camper wiring was a standalone option and was NOT one of the options required to qualify for the Custom Camper nameplate. It was shipped from the factory without any type of plug. The wiring started at the firewall, followed the left frame rail with the other rear wiring and only reached about as far as the middle of the left bedside. The truck was supposed to be shipped with the wires coiled and placed in the front left stake pocket. The camper wiring on today's trucks is supplied the same way but is secured to the frame near the front of the bed.

A truck (mine for example) could have all the options required for the nameplate but not have the nameplate. The nameplate was a no cost option that had to be specified when the truck was ordered from GM. Frankly, I'm glad my CST doesn't have the Custom Camper nameplate that would have replaced the CST fender emblem. In my opinion "CST" trumps "Custom Camper" (and I know it could be a Custom Camper).

Springs could be either coil of leaf.

One more note regarding GMC, the fender nameplate from 69-71 is Chevy-only - GMC's had the door script before Chevy did.

You bet. That's cool to know. I haven't touched this truck since August other than start it and warm it up a few times so I am kind of learning over again.

you weren't kidding! Wow - yes, looking forward to an additional pic of that. Can make out model number and paint, and partial bits, but a new pic would help - one without the shadow. Thanks for sharing!
I am seeing CE10934 (model #), Gauge package, White/Blue(?) I THINK it's blue... but that's about it so far.

I tried myself to pull it into an editor to see if I could change some light values, contrast and other things.. I am not sure there is enough left to get the writing back..Maybe someone else with better tools can try..
