Bed wood cutting

Making own bedwood......Can use router or table saw for groove, but what is best way to make outer edge lower than middle of plank?

Re: Bed wood cutting

ho70. I have done a couple of wood beds starting with rough lumber. I only used my table saw and a dado blade to cut the grooves. I guess I should add that I used a planer to plane the rough lumber. If I remember right I set the dado blade to cut the deeper grove first and reset the blade to cut the other. You can do this with your saw blade if you don't have a dado, it just takes longer.

Re: Bed wood cutting

Last wood bed I helped with, we used a table saw and a router table. Turned out nice.

Re: Bed wood cutting

A couple setups with a router edge guide and you can knock out the groove and outer edge in a hurry.

I also used my large thickness planer, table saw, router table, and miter saw to trim the ends.

Re: Bed wood cutting

I actually mad the ones on my truck shallower than factory so the wear bar actually sticks up a bit further, the only issue with doing them deeper is your wear bar only serves as a hold down now and does not truly protect the wood.
