Long fleetside to long stepside?
Hi guys, I am fairly new here and new to the chevy pickup scene.. I have a 1969 C10 Fleetside longbox. I am wondering if it is possible to switch it to a longbed stepside? Would it be as simple as pulling the bedsides off and bolting the new ones on? I know that I will have to play around with the wiring and bumper but other than that is it relatively simple? If it is I would really like to go this route. I love how the steppers look, especially long steppers. Thank you.

Re: Long fleetside to long stepside?
Not that easy. The fleetside beds are completely different from the stepside beds. Either one will bolt on your frame but no parts interchange between them.

Re: Long fleetside to long stepside?
It's not "quite" that easy. But almost.
Besides the bed sides, you need the bed front, the tailgate, and the fenders. Different bed cross-members (the metal bars that support the bed). Likely different tail lights, back-up lights (you can mod the existing fleetsides if you're a good metal worker). If you want a wood bed, you'll need different wood. You'll need the side steps themselves. They aren't hard to find, but the hangers for these are next to impossible to find. I thought I remembered someone making these as an aftermarket part, but I can't remember where I saw it.

Re: Long fleetside to long stepside?
So in order to actually perform the swap I would have to treat the truck as though I started with no bed at all? Basically from the frame up?

Re: Long fleetside to long stepside?
Yes, that is correct. As if you never had a bed.

Re: Long fleetside to long stepside?
Whole bed to whole bed swap. You will have a complete Fleetside bed to sell...unless it is trashed.
