700R4 E Brake cable question

My mechanic that is converting my 68 stepside from I6 to 350, and 3 speed manual to 700R4 told me that the E brake cable may be interfered with by the new crossmember for the tranny. Will a conversion to a 72 E brake setup be possible? And would it avoid this interference?

I don't remember any problems with my ebrake cable when I did mine. I don't think you will have any problems.

Re: 700R4 E Brake cable question

OK I just spoke with him again. That was my mistake. It is NOT the crossmember itself, but something about the transmission being longer than the three speed manual one that may interfere with it. If you had no problems with yours, then I guess I am OK.

Re: 700R4 E Brake cable question

No problem. I'm running a 700r4 on a 69 short fleet. There is no interference. If there were any though, it would be very easy to create a bracket that holds the cable out of the way.
