12 bolt posi and gear cost

I just put 31in tall tires on the back of my 69 c10. I have 3.07 gear in my 12 bolt. The taller tire made that lower of course. I'm wanting to go 3.73 with posi. Ballpark, what's this going to cost me?

Re: 12 bolt posi and gear cost

Jump onto Summit Racing and price it out. I took apart my rearend and removed the bearings then paid a guy $150 to put it back together with all the new parts that I purchased...

Re: 12 bolt posi and gear cost

You can figure around $850 in parts for ring and pinion, positrack carrier assembly, new bearings, and misc parts. Plus $$ labor to have the rear end rebuilt and setup correctly by someone who knows what they're doing.

eBay has a few places selling a posi, gears, and all bearings & seals for less than $600 shipped. Search "12 bolt truck 3.73"

Be careful with the off brand crap, it is not somewhere I would skimp. Eddie pretty much hit the nail on the head, with parts and labor you are looking at around a grand to 1200 to set it up right. I used a Yukon posi in mine that came with Richmond gears.

Re: 12 bolt posi and gear cost

I just had my 68's rebuilt a couple of months ago. I used Auburn posi, Richmond gears, new bearings and install kit, and I bought new axles and bearings. My total with labor was $1800.00. If you're not running an over drive tranny that 3.73 gear will be a screamer.

Link to one like I mentioned. Doesn't seem to be off-brand crap to me.

Re: 12 bolt posi and gear cost

Be aware that not all posi units are the same, and do some research into the strengths and weaknesses of each. Your time will be well invested. Then spend the money to get what you want. Saving money now and wishing you had spent that extra money in six months is a really bummer feeling.

Re: 12 bolt posi and gear cost

We just had a Dana 60 rebuilt with new Yukon gears, Detroit Locker, and all the bearings. $350 for the labor. Total of $2300

By the time we got done with the brake shoes, wheel cylinders, brake drums, and all the wheel bearings, we are about $3200 in the rear axle alone.

I should have gone a different direction from day one.....but the '70 is a Hen's tooth.....

Re: 12 bolt posi and gear cost

I have 31" tires, TH350 with a 3.07, I like the ability to run down the freeway at 2700 RPM doing 70-ish. I wouldn't change it back. I had 3.73 before.
