1970 gmc jimmy (Don)
Heres my jump back into k5/jimmys after I had to sell all my others to down size from country life to in town life, small garage living. I found it thanks to the craigslist find thread and wasnt really looking to buy since I have a 90 Grand Wagoneer and no room for a new rig (wife's new car sits next to the jeep in our 2 car garage.) Anyways I checked out the ad and was hooked...but it was in Washington State. I took the plunge and called the seller and got a good feel from him. Talked to him quite a bit and liked what I heard and the pictres he sent. A deal was made and I had it shipped back to Illinois. This Jimmy was bought new by the sellers grandfather (Don) and it lived its entire life in Oxnard, California until his death in 2013. Thats when the current owner flew to So Cal ,gassed it up and drove it 1000 miles back to Camas, Wa where they replaced carb , intake , dist etc to make it more driver friendly for his wife. (All original parts were packed in the jimmy and came with along with a bunch of other stuff and memorabilia.) They decided to sell rather then let it sit covered in the drive. I received the original window sticker, bill of sale, protecto plate, owners manual dealer brochure...etc. Don was also an avid off roader and added a bunch of hickey parts and I even have an original hickey catalog that came with, along with a list of the parts Don had purchased from Hickey and added to the Jimmy. He took this rig all over as evidenced by his plaques he added to the glovebox door and windshield frame. The original glovebox is off the vehicle and set aside. I plan on cleaning it up...replacing the tires but probably keeping the hickey(I think) aluminum wheels. I may remove the lights on the bumper. Overall the vehicle is very solid...has a spot of rust on upper windshield frame...some bubbles in the front corners of the doors(my other Cali truck had rust here in the doors too??) Bed floor and bedsides along with rocker boxes are solid. One tiny spot on passenger floor by kickpanel. Here are some pictures.......

Re: 1970 gmc jimmy (Don)
He said he could possibly use the trailer. I didnt have room or want to pay to ship that a s well. Would have been neat to have but I think there is a title snafu. This Jimmy was sold new at Mcconica motors in Ventura California.....anybody have a license plate frame from there? Im gonna run the original California license plates on it (they sent them too.)We can run year of manufacture plates in Illinois as long as you have valid registration in the vehicle.

You got a great Hickey museum Baja setup, congratulations. Pity about that trailer, it is part of the truck's history and way cool in its own right.

Re: 1970 gmc jimmy (Don)
At first glance, I thought the Jimmy had a really dirty parchment vinyl interior. But after reading the SPID, I see it is actually gold vinyl. Hugger orange with gold vinyl interior is definitely a unique combination. Can't be many like that.

Very cool Jimmy, my trucks cousin in same color. More interior pictures when you can, I always wondered about that color combo you have and thought/knew it would look great with hugger orange.

Re: 1970 gmc jimmy (Don)
Ive been working on cleaning the interior. Been using goof and simple green. Color isnt too bad...still gonna look like a dirty parchment. The carpet is gonna be a chore to clean. I have the original steering wheel to add but need the gmc horn button and it...along with the dash are a different color than the seats. Kind of a darker tan..unsure of the correct name. Seatbelts look parchment but we'll see once I really clean them. Ill work on it more this weekend but I did take it out for a highway cruise and had a scare when the throttle stuck open due to a cotter pin of all things. Thank god the brakes worked!

Re: 1970 gmc jimmy (Don)
The steering wheel and dash color may be "sandalwood". That is a moderately dark tan color, but not as dark as "saddle". My Blazer has a parchment interior and the carpet, steering wheel, and dash are all sandalwood. I don't think a gold steering wheel or dash pad were ever made for these trucks (except maybe for the 50th anniversary models).

Re: 1970 gmc jimmy (Don)
Yep...too bad armstrong is long gone. Ive been searching and searching for a tire solution. Think I want a Rwl tire instead of a blackwall on these rims. May just go with a cooper rwl like on my grand wagoneer.

Re: 1970 gmc jimmy (Don)
New dilema......I hate the tires on this thing...owner bought them in a pinch on his 1000 mile trip home from Cali to Washington. Found 31x10.5x15 goodyear wranglers at walmart for 109 ea...probably have the white letters out. I dont know if I should mount them on the rims on it or if I should put them on the 15x8 steelies that I picked up today(thanks John Basler!) and run the dog dish hubcaps .
