Need Help Transmission Shift Linkage Question
Prepping to pull trans and unhooked linkage from trans and the linkage popped out of the socket on frame. If you look at picture the red arrows indicate where I am talking about. What holds that end in place and keeps the spring from doing nothing and going right through the socket? Is there a press on washer that is supposed to be there along with a larger than socket opening washer? I made a drawing of what I am talking about too.

Re: Need Help Transmission Shift Linkage Question
I don't think anything goes on the shaft end...what year model and trans do you have? Here's a pic of a similar setup..I believe the spring just holds tension on the linkage..

Re: Need Help Transmission Shift Linkage Question
There is supposed to be a plastic bushing that fits inside the cupped part of the bracket on the frame. The originals were made of a white or off-white nylon. This replacement one is black but appears to be the same shape --> http://www.makcotransmissionparts.com/M463GB.html

Re: Need Help Transmission Shift Linkage Question
Ok so nothing on tip/end but a washer and insulator in the cup...Seems as though previous owner used a lug nut....It worked but would rather do it right...

Re: Need Help Transmission Shift Linkage Question
I was thinking he was referring to the shaft end after it went thru the mounting bracket...rays right..there should be a bushing between the spring and the bracket...but nothing on the outside of the bracket
Lugnut...= redneck engineering...haha |

Re: Need Help Transmission Shift Linkage Question
Yeah, nothing on the outer end of the shaft that protrudes through the bracket.
The spring should push against the washer & plastic bushing, holding them into the cupped part of the frame bracket. |
