Diamond plate
Thinking about Diamond plate in the bed of my 63 step-side. Any help with the install would be appreciated. Working on the cab now before pulling it off the frame. Bed is apart and ready to clean and paint. Thanks in advance. This is my first attempt at a frame up restoration.

I don't think they sell sheets big enough so you will have a seam. Unless your truck is a step side, but even then it will only reach to the edge of the rails that are welded to the bed sides.

Somebody put a full sheet of diamond plate in mine. There are no seams.

My biggest question is how to take up the void left when the wood is removed. I am using .250 plate and there will be a gap on each end and over the cross members. I think it will be wavy if its not supported.

That .250" diamond plate is way overkill and way more weight and money than you need to spend. I would go with 14ga or no more than 1/8". Then make up the thickness different by building a framework from some 5/8" square tubing.
