My Love Affair with Square Bodies began here!

If anyone wonders where my love affair with square body (73-87) GM trucks comes from, here it is.... 1973 Sierra Grande 2500 4x4 that my parents bought new. My very first vehicle ride was in this truck. This picture was taken in 1979. Looks to have had a rough winter with the missing plow turn lens and chrome trim on the front fender. The truck was owned by us till 1988. It is still around in a slightly different form as of a few years ago...

Re: My Love Affair with Square Bodies began here!

This was my first love for the squares.

Bought it new in 77 right out of school exactly the way I wanted it. Black was the color to get and everyone had one, and those black Slverados are nice but I went in the opposite direction and got a frost white Silverado, 350, TH350, Headman headers, 3.08 gears, Western slotted mags, P255-60's, limo tint, Holley 650, small GM Corvette cam (#3863151), B&M Shift Kit, custom tonnau cover and stereo that was loud before it'w time.

Not quick with the 3.08's but man it would fly. Hearing that speed-o ping at the 5:30PM mark on the dial came easy. 168,000 dumb, hard, young miles and it never let me down once. Been wanting another once ever since. Got a 74 project now but I don't remember the cabs being so small. My belly didn't rub the steering wheel back then.

Re: My Love Affair with Square Bodies began here!

My interests in square bodies started with a 1959 Chevy, long bed, flareside. I needed a new driveline and thought I would put a 59 body on a 86 rolling chassis. When I started looking at square bodies I realized my Grandpa had one in these in his driveway when I was growing up, I just didn't realize it until I started looking at square bodies. Now I'm on my second square body and I'm looking forward to having a much better rig then my first version.

Re: My Love Affair with Square Bodies began here!

my first k5 blazer was given to me in 1999, was just rotting away in a friends yard and he said i could have it. over the 4 years i owned it i started accumulating parts so it only made sense to keep buying chevys.

always kinda wonder if it was a bronco if i would have went that way instead. glad it was a chevy though its all i ever owned and in the past 18 years or so owning lots of beater chevy trucks i only been on a tow truck once, due to it breaking on the highway and didnt want to swap a ignition module on the shoulder

Re: My Love Affair with Square Bodies began here!

Im on my 2nd squarebody. My love affair started in 2010 when i was thinking about buying a pickup. I actually was looking for a Nissan 720 but my bro in law had a couple squarebodys n i started really liking them. My cousin in law just happened to have his 74 sitting at his dad's house so i struck a deal with him n got it for 400 bucks. Did a lot of work on it over 6 years including an LS swap but her body got pretty rusty so i decided to get another truck. A buddy told me about an 83 that he found for sale for $300 with a really straight n solid body but didnt run so i grabbed it. Its currently at another buddy's shop getting the LS swapped in from my 74.Trying to getting it ready in time for a burnout competition later this month. Cant wait to get her back so i can enjoy her
