Hidden Long to Short Bed
Is this a deliberate attempt to fraud someone? Here is a 127WB fleetside cut down and changed to a 115 stepper. Spid is posted but the 2 & 7 are obscured and there is no written info on the truck. The model # 10934 tells the tale.

Re: Hidden Long to Short Bed
Yep, was originally a long fleet side truck. Owner may have no clue. Could be on a real short bed frame, who knows.
That's why people need to go look at stuff in person.

Re: Hidden Long to Short Bed
Really not a bad example of a rust free BB stepper for that price, granted not original. If you put two trucks together yourself it would cost more I think. If you can get past the SPID discrepancy might be a good daily driver.

Re: Hidden Long to Short Bed
Ok, I saw $5400 but didn't look at the reserve (or not). The frame might not be cut, it might be a short bed frame with a long bed cab. Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending this, I'm offering a different perspective. Things like this are out there and good on the OP for pointing it out as someone with less experience may have only found out after purchase. Yes, buyer beware, at the right price it is still a rust free BB stepper. I'm not really a stepper guy, I like the FS's better, short or long.

Re: Hidden Long to Short Bed
Current seller might not honestly know, might have been taken by the guy he bought the truck from.

Deception or ignorance, we'll never know - but, I sincerely wish SOMEone had left it the original rare 559 paint combo. One of my favorites.

Re: Hidden Long to Short Bed
I don't see any concrete evidence of an attempt to defraud a would-be buyer. It's the buyers obligation to do the research. If they are ignorant and uninformed about the vehicle they wish to purchase that's their fault. It "should" be common knowledge for anyone who purchases a classic to be extra cautious and diligent when looking at anything titled desirable such as an SS, Cheyenne Super, SWB, Yenko, Hemi, Drag Pack, Boss, Gt, and the many more models and options available.

Re: Hidden Long to Short Bed
Buying classics ain't the same as CarMax. You're on your own buying something you don't need with extra money after paying your bills. It's up to the individual to spend wisely.
That said, how can someone own this truck and not know himself? We expect the buyer to look, to put 2 and 2 together on a vehicle being sold by someone who never did, or is dishonest. I think when selling a classic vehicle the seller should educate themselves on what they are selling. To not offer info is the same as lying in my book. You don't have to speak to mislead someone. The pictures are sure careful not to show the difference between the new paint on the new Stepside with the old paint. That SPID survived well, all except the numbers that show LWB. I'm sure that's coincidence, right? I buy antiques and it bugs me bigtime when all a dealer knows is how much they want for an item. They either list no description or an incorrect one. I bought an aluminum pot/pan strainer with a wooden handle. I knew what it was as soon as I saw it. Handy dandy little item. The description on the tag said "bacon press". Yeah right! Ignorance or deceit, either way it's just wrong to not know what you have when you are selling...unless that is what you are telling people. And why does it matter? If you know these trucks you'd know that a Cheyenne Stepside is a rare piece and a big block shortbed Stepside Cheyenne with A/C is a rare, exceptional, desireable collector's item. A truck put together to be that from other parts is just a cool truck. I bite an apple I expect it to taste like one, not an orange. But I do like oranges.

Re: Hidden Long to Short Bed
EBay, not anywhere I would be looking to buy a classic personally, but it is the buyers responsibility to know what he's buying. A reputable seller has the responsibility to give accurate information about what he's selling. It's pretty obvious to most of us truck guys this truck is a Unicom if it was originally a short bed, bb, Cheyenne step side. The sticker being messed up on the wheel base is suspicious to say the least. A couple of questions asked of the seller from a serious buyer should be all it would take to clear it up if you are dealing with a reputable seller. You know the old saying. CAVEAT EMPTOR. Let the buyer beware. Depending on price and how well the conversion was done it might be a nice little truck. I would definitely want to see it in person or at the very least pictures. If they swapped it to a short frame I really wouldn't mind owning it. But that's just me.

Re: Hidden Long to Short Bed
My untrusting side, which is my only side when buying a truck (), would be suspicious of this truck also. Having said that, the seller did actually post the SPID, which most do not, and although the wb is gouged out, the model # is clear and is 1 of 2 clues available to the buyer. So I'm gonna lean to the side of thinking this is not an intentional attempt to mislead. It just is what it is - and good on ya for pointing it out Greg, not everyone knows that the model # is another swb vs lwb clue. Since many of us do buy these with originality in mind, always good to share potential originality gotchas with a large crowd of potential buyers like this. Having said all that - if someone likes this truck and does the research and is fine with its birth certificate saying it was a lwb, it's a very cool little stepper and would be a blast to scoot around in.

Re: Hidden Long to Short Bed
I love the truck as well. It's also obvious its a fauxtina paint job (gray primer instead of red oxide and black) but overall appears to be a very cool pickup.

Re: Hidden Long to Short Bed
My skepticism started when I saw the 27 on the 127 scratched out. If it were not for that I probably wouldn't have even made a post about the truck. As far as the Model # goes unless the seller is a real truck aficionado they would not know what info comes form the model number. As has been stated maybe the seller bought the truck the way it is, with the 27 scratched off the spid, and he does say he has owned it for 3 years so it should be titled in his name. I do agree though looks like a well put together truck and would be a great truck for someone as long as they bought it with their eyes open.

Re: Hidden Long to Short Bed
There is a chance that they are not saying that they shortened it. But it's also possible that it's original. Could be a different glove box door, different cab, different frame..hard to say without seeing all the vin codes on doorjamb and frame

Re: Hidden Long to Short Bed
For arguments sake-
My dad's 68 was a short fleet then and now... They are almost 50 year old trucks, who knows what's happened to them.

Re: Hidden Long to Short Bed
One thing you fail to remember is that you are an educated buyer when looking at these trucks. For those on the outside that wake up and decide they want to sit at the cool table, they don't look at all that stuff. To them if it runs, stops and gets a skirt lifted, then its okay in there books. Before i joined this board i could care less the difference between a C10 and a C20, but after years of education from other members, i feel that i am now a buyers worse nightmare on these trucks

Re: Hidden Long to Short Bed
I sent an email to the seller with some questions.. First paragraph is my email second is the response...
Question...Hi... I've been looking for a short stepside truck for a whikle now ad am interested in yours. I'm in Western Canada and have bought vehicles form the USA before. Is the truck titled in your name? Also by the model number on the posted label the truck was built as a long wheelbase fleetside truck so its been converted to a short wheelbase stepper. Did you buy the truck like that or have the work done to it.. Thanks ..Greg Answer...i no nothing about short wheel base or long i bought it this way im going to ck the frame to see thanks jose My thoughts are, my title question was never addressed and he's owned it for 3 yeaers and never looked ( had it on a hoist) at the frame..
