Tow Hitch
Hi all,
Truck is finished and the next project on the table top is possibly a 13-14' canned ham camper or a large teardrop trailer/sleeper. Generally the 13'-14' weight in at 1500 lbs. and a teardrop is at 800-1000 lbs. based on what I'm reading. Do any of the members have suggestion or brand or brand of hitch they are using. I have a 1960 GMC Wideside (fleetside) stock with a 305 V-6 and 4 speed hydramatic. From searching the 67-72 site I came across this hitch, but was a bit hesitant, because I was unsure if the width of the rear frame was the same as a 1964-66. https://www.amazon.com/Reese-Towpowe...ulti-Fit+Hitch Thanks, Jake

Re: Tow Hitch
60-72 C10 Chassis should be the same. I know a lot use 67-72 hidden hitches on 64-66 trucks also.

Re: Tow Hitch
Frame width is NOT the same 60-66. Get the proper hitch or buy an adjustable one. I bought an adjustable Reese hitch at one of the local chain stores, fixed the size, and then welded it up solid. Nice, quality hitch for $129, I think.

Re: Tow Hitch
63-72 frame width is the same, rarely do they go that far back (63-66). Hidden hitches are great just buy one like the one from CPP like I did, works great on my 65.

Re: Tow Hitch
You will need a universal hitch like this
https://www.etrailer.com/RV-and-Camp...SABEgK4H_D_BwE Here's an old thread where something similar was used, unfortunately the photos are gone http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=390504 Last edited by jweb; 07-15-2017 at 11:41 PM. |

Re: Tow Hitch
Your 60 GMC won't be able to use those intended for 67-72.
The 60-62 frames are 8" wider than the 63-72. You will probably need the one iWeb posted or a custom one made.

Re: Tow Hitch
The reason I bought my '64 suburban was to tow our vintage trailer. Since I haven't touched the suburban in a year, I decided to build a hitch for my '51 using a hitch similar to the one in my link above. I towed the trailer for the first time last month to a vintage trailer rally.
