Super Duper Haggis Hauler II - The Resurrection

Thanks to Photo buckets change in terms and conditions Ive lost all my 3rd part hosted pictures on my original thread. If I can, in time, I will try and put the photos back, but for now the Super Duper Haggis Hauler is dead!

But as they say long live the Super Duper Haggis Hauler II - The Resurrection.

So from now to the end of the build (I hope) this will be the home to my project 62 short bed C10.

Well despite other things getting in the way, like work (really interferes does work), the few wee things Ive been doing to the C3 and starting work on an extension to my driveway (to host my increasing car collection and my kids cars - youngest will be driving very soon I hope), work on the truck has actually been progressing well.

So where was I last. Id sand blast the hood and repainted the pedal assembly (which is now part fitted) and Id blasted this lot

Then the hood and all received several coats of etch, epoxy and high build primers

Also got the door and front fender fitting reasonably well. Still got a bit of fettling to do and a bit of filling

And for the first time I can see the stance at the front. I'm quite happy how that wheel fills the wheel well without being too tall or too small.

Oh and yes I am struggling attaching these pictures but I'll figure it out eventually!

Re: Super Duper Haggis Hauler II - The Resurrection

Welcome back with the new thread Bill, door to fender gap is looking much better. Once I got mine sorted I drew (or is that drawed ) around the bolts so I could re-hang them in the exact same spot.

I'm thinking of doing the same Ian. The thought of having to reposition it again is not worth thinking! Already damaged enough paint hanging it this time round!

Opinions please chaps and chapesses (is that a real word?), before I clear the hood do I keep the "pin" stripe?

I'm not doing a lot of this on the outside but its just to bring a little of the interior colour outside.

Thoughts?

Yup....

Strip says "Custom"

I have always wondered how one could enhance that detail on the hood.

Re: Super Duper Haggis Hauler II - The Resurrection

Not been any updates of late because im still working on that damn hood. I have now repainted it 4 times. Ive gone through 6 litre of base coat most of whick in now dust on the floor. Ive given up on the stripes and im still not happy.

However as for now its done and will be fitted very soon. If at the end of my build i decide to take it off and do it again i will or ill get a friend whos a painter to re do it but right now its just lucky ive not burned it to the ground.

Right now im on a business trip to Islay and sitting on a ferry and cant figure out how to attach a picture but ill do that asap.

Re: Super Duper Haggis Hauler II - The Resurrection

I think sometimes you need to just walk away.
Other times.......? Set fire to it.

One of the reasons I am not touching my truck yet.
My head is totally not in the right place.

I do hope you are happy with the hood when you get back to it.

Enjoy the trip too.

Re: Super Duper Haggis Hauler II - The Resurrection

I know exactly what you mean with the hood. I think it's just the sheer size, getting mine anywhere near flat enough to paint was a real chore and it's still not 100%

On a brighter note your off to Islay, the perfect place to forget your truck ( forget everything if you're not careful). Bowmore would probably me my choice or the Bunnahabbain, but take your own cigars they're a fortune on the island

Re: Super Duper Haggis Hauler II - The Resurrection

Fortunately I don't smoke Ian, one vice I never took too. Whisky on the other hand!!!! Bought a bottle of Laphroaig while I was there. I was staying in Port Ellen but my site team were staying in Bowmore (where they are working in the power station).

I had to drive to join them for dinner and of course they all had a few pints. My B&B was dry so I was forced mind, forced, to nip into the local whisky shop and buy a bottle of one of my favourite's before returning to my digs for a quiet dram (and Lone Survivor which just happened to be on).

Anyway back to matters in hand.

Grizz, I nearly did burn it to the ground and no I'm far from happy but it will do for now or I'll never get anything else done and the hood will have so much paint on it will take 10 to lift it!

On a positive note I managed a small but satisfying fix this evening. Before I set off to Islay I looked out the parts to start looking to fit the steering column. I need to move the truck in a week or too and having a steering wheel makes that so much easier.

When I test fit the rag joint to the box I found out that the nuggets at POL (should be POS) had sent the wrong one. So that put me in a worse mood.

However, the calm of a few days on Islay got me thinking and I dug out the old one and tonight I was able to swap the fittings and I now have a usable rag joint - Woo Hoo!

Anyway this weekend I will hopefully flatten and polish the hood and fit it and then hopefully fit the column.

Feel the same Karl.

So many forum users (not just on here) used photobucket and now their threads are useless.

Re: Super Duper Haggis Hauler II - The Resurrection

Well I finished the hood (for now at least) over the weekend. Got it all sanded and polished and if it wasn't for the bits I don't like it would be really good !?!?!?!?!

Id have fitted it too if I hadn't had a Doh! moment when I flipped it to fit the Dynamat. That would be the Dynamat that hasn't arrived yet! Got confused (not hard these days) with the stuff I already have for the inside of the cab and for the Vette's hood. Anyway not to worry I should have that in this week.

Anyway I got the hood hinges and springs fitted

Attachment 1683103

Just a shame I couldn't find the nice new spring installation tool I bought, but the springs are now on as well!

I also got the steering column fitted

Attachment 1683104

But it is very tight and I'm at the max adjustment in length.

Attachment 1683105

Also it doesn't fit that well under the dash. I can only get 1 fixing in.

Attachment 1683106

Attachment 1683107

Think I will either add a couple of extra holes or elongate the ones already there but m also short of longer bolts. I have few spare American threads but Ive a lot of metric so I may have to tap the fixings out to 8mm.

Re: Super Duper Haggis Hauler II - The Resurrection

Back at work today after 2 weeks holiday and for the first time in ages I think I managed to get almost everything I wanted done.

Got my garage roof extended and carport covered (gone is the big green PVC groundsheet)

Got my drive at the front extended (still to decide how I want to finish it but at least its usable)

Got the workshop roof refelted and the garage cleared (now got enough space to get the Corvette in there over the winter (sadly now the trucks cab in back on its frame it will never get back in)).

Got the hood back on the truck (still not happy with the paint but it will do for now) and even got back to fitting the passenger door and fender.

Only problem I have right now is I cant get the forum to upload any pictures! I miss Photobucket, even though it was crap. Need to see if I can do this another way.
