Under dash speaker
I am sure this has been posted before but I can not find a clear answer. I have an underdash blazer speaker with the nuts welded to the brackets. Most of the pics I see have the speaker mounters below the heater controls on the outside edge of the dash. Others say they are mounter just to the left. Where is the correct mounting for a 71? I have no other holes under the dash.

Re: Under dash speaker
Is that the original speaker for that blazer? Mine is original and has ac so the speaker mounts below and left of the controls. Just two holes there and you put the speaker up under the lip and the bolts the the lip into the threaded nuts on the bracket.

Re: Under dash speaker
If you dont have any other holes then you may need to remove the nuts and just use the heater control bolts and holes.

Re: Under dash speaker
For 71 its mounted where the screws are for the ac controls. Brackets w nuts are for non-ac k5s and use the same screws for heater controls to best of my knowledge. Brackets for ac k5s dont have the nuts and mount w the machine screws for the ac control bracket.

Re: Under dash speaker
My blazer is non ac so it sounds like I have the correct speaker. The screws in my heater control are sheet metal style. Do I drill the ear on the heater control to the machine screw can pass through to he nut on the speaker? I am pretty mechanical and it's not making sense.

Re: Under dash speaker
Im on a mobile phone at the moment. Try a search for underdash speakers - should turn up pics of the different bracket types. Double check me but i think all you need to do is grind off the nuts then the screws will work. Only difference is presence or absence of the nuts.

Re: Under dash speaker
I found a few pics it appears that the brackets with the nuts get mounted to the left of the heater controls. The brackets with the nuts are also a different length a tad longer then the one that gets mounted under the heater control

Re: Under dash speaker
Could be wrong but i thought that location was used for MY 1969. See the plaid highlander thread for recent pics that show speaker placement in a 72 survivor non-ac blazer.

It could be that early style brackets used nuts and were mounted to the side and later brackets lacked nuts and all went below the heater ac controls.

Re: Under dash speaker
That's perfect are they mounted in the same bolts as the heater controls? If so does the screw pass thru heater controls?
