Re: Ignition help.
I have seen folks just use a large screwdriver to get it to turn, then use a small pin or allen key to get it out.

Re: Ignition help.
Drill out the cylinder, small steps at a time so you don't drill into the ignition switch, when the lock cylinder gets thin, crack it with a screwdriver to make the diameter smaller overall then pull out with needle nose, done it many times.

Re: Ignition help.
Yeah, unfortunately it must turn, by one method or the other to remove. I'd pay a locksmith to try and make a key or whatever they do, before I would start drilling. But that's just me. It is a real PITA. Also Drill out the little pin on the side, if it has one, if you HAVE to resort to drilling. The good news is that a new key cylinder is only about 20 bucks. Just don't hurt the area outside the cylinder while drilling.

Re: Ignition help.
It's aluminum pot metal, the easiest thing you will ever drill, takes minutes...

Re: Ignition help.
I just had this problem , lost keys to 70 swb. I tried to drill out center of lock and turn with screwdriver, no luck. I then unplugged ignition switch from lock cylinder and unscrewed bezel as far as possible. Then took approx 1/8 drill bit and started drilling holes in lock cylinder around edge as close to bezel as possible. after drilling 2/3 around cyl bezel came off. bezel was reuseable, made one or two small spots on threads, but not bad. (much better than punching out dash as was recommended to me) Utube vidio showed somebody trying to get it out with slide hammer and finally giving up. if you do mess up bezel it is available from both wes (classic heartbeat) & gmcpaul among others and it was even in my lowbuck budget. I did not replace bezel but did replace lock cyl and switch(bought kit with new matching door locks and glovebox locks)
Hope this helps |

Re: Ignition help.
Do not drill out the pin, it's part of the ignition switch.
Drill right through the key slot, start with about 3/8 bit, then step up till one side gets thin, then collapse it inside the hole to free the locking key way. |
