Need windshield installed
As the subject title says, I need to get the windshield installed on my '65 C10 pickup. Should be simple enough but, every place I called either doesn't do classic vehicles or, require the truck to be brought to their shop. However, I can't take it in because the truck is not yet running and, can't afford to pay to take it there and bring it back. Does anyone here know a place that will come to my location or, know how to install it. I would of course pay to have this done. If anyone can help me I'd sure appreciate it. Thanks

Re: Need windshield installed
Check Hemmings.com for this and then see if any folks are local. ALSO reach out to any of the car clubs, they will know someone.

Thanks for the help. Hemmings was no help. All of their suggestions were a long way away. Maybe someone else will see this thread and know someone.

Re: Need windshield installed
I did mine with the stainless trim 4 times, and the glass shop tore my rear big window seal so I did that one to. I bought the glass tools on Amazon and watched the video at precision rubber.

Re: Need windshield installed
I have used these guys out of Grand Prairie but for a modern car, they did real good and was real quick. Came to my office to do the job.

Re: Need windshield installed
Call around the local shops, a 65 should be no problem for them to come to your garage. Mine did (Gainesville).
BTW, I was not impressed with the Precision gasket I had bought. My glass guy said the ones from LMC are the best right now.

Re: Need windshield installed
I called Binswanger today. They won't install old glass. Plus, Binswanger along with Safelite and Dallas fort worth glass won't come to me to install it, have to take it to them. I don't have a trailer and can't afford to rent a truck and trailer. I'm just about to the point I'm thinking about selling the damn thing. It's been nothing but a PITA since I started working on it 5 years ago.

Re: Need windshield installed
You know what? Here's and idea, call a couple of body and paint shops in your area, they have glass people who show up for work.

Re: Need windshield installed
If the suggestion that Rocknrod gave doesn't pan out let me know and I will check with shop in Abilene they know several of the installers in your area that might do it after hours. If you decide to do it yourself they are pretty easy to do just make sure the flap you use is either 1/4 " or 5/16" COTTEN not nylon start at bottom go both ways slowly. Wish I was closer good luck

Re: Need windshield installed
Well, I might have found a place. Clyde 65 had told me about a Hot Rod shop called Texas Muscle cars, owned by Larry Hamill, that could possibly help me remove a bend in the rear window opening. I called him today and asked him if he knew a place. He gave me the number for a place called Chip away auto glass. I'll find out tomorrow if he can do it. If he can't do it I'll call around to some local paint and body shops to find out who they use. Thanks to all for the help!

Re: Need windshield installed
Wow, surprised you can't find anyone. I had the windshield replaced in my 64 a couple of years ago at my uncle's house in Augusta, GA. We went with one of the suggestions above - called a nearby body shop and they gave us the name of a glass guy who comes to their shop. Wasn't even expensive, I wanna say it was like $150.

Re: Need windshield installed
Got it installed today by Chip Away Auto Glass. Cost was $150 and I furnished the rubber. Their number is 817-690-4103 if anyone needs glass installed.

Re: Need windshield installed
Chances are that guy did work for one of the major shops at one time. When I worked for Binswanger every time got a man trained he would move to big city and set up shop. Glad you got it done.
