long bed to short bed question

I know this question is asked alot but I have a different version. I know if I cut the frame down, I need to take 8"off the rear and 12" from under the cab somewhere. Bbut what if I install a pro street subframe from Alston or Morrison? Do I still need to take 12" from under the cab or just set it up for the correct wheel base? Also what is the correct wheel base? I`ve seen 112"-115".

Thanks

I will try to explain how I would set it up. Cut the 12" out from under the cab, that way the bed mounts will be properly located to the cab. Move the rear cab mounts aft 12 inches. The fwd. bed mount (1 each side) comes off, and the second set of mounts become the fwd. mounts for the bed. Once that is done, you can cut/ instl. your rear sub frame. Be sure to measure where the bed mounts are in relation to the cab mounts so you can keep proper location of them on the new sub frame. I am no pro at this, but I did cut my 68 LWB into a short bed, using Efabman's instructions from this forum. (PS also back halved my 67 AMC) Good luck on your project.

thanks for the info. if i cut the frame just past the front bed mounts, do i still need to take the 12" out? what i`m saying is, if i leave the front bed mounts, then cut the frame after, could`nt i just cut the frame off and set it up for the shorter wheel base? i can install the subframe anywhere so as long as the front bed mounts are left in the stock location, to square up with the cab, i should be able to get the shorted wheelbase right? i appreciate the info. i helped my buddy install a subframe on his `55 p/u but we did`nt change the wheel base.

That sounds good. one thing to remember is that the front bed mounts are not used on a short bed. So you still want the second set of bed mounts (and all remaining) 12" closer to the rear cab mounts when finished. Just curious, you going with ladder bars or 4 link?

if the shortbeds don`t use the front bed mount, then how do you mount the bed? i`ve seen a few swb trucks with the beds off and they have mounts. are they different than the lwb trucks? i was planning on going with a 4 link set up but if i still have to take 12" from under the cab, i may just cut it down to a swb and call it good. i was hopeing to just cut the frame off and center the wheel in the wheelwell, get the correct wheelbase and be done.

The second set of bed mounts (on the long bed frame) become the front mounts of the short bed (remember, the bed is now 12" shorter from wheel well to front panel).

thanks for the info. i was hopeing to just cut it off and weld in the subframe but if i have to shorten it anyway, i`ll just shorten the frame and be done with it. it will be cheaper that way anyway. thanks again
