Re: 1970 correct paint

I was told back in the 70s that my 69 was acrylic enamel. The cars had been acrylic lacquer for about 10 years at that time. I was surprised the trucks hadn't changed.

We'll that's a relief. I priced lacquer and acrylic enamel. Lacquer 800 for a gallon vs 200 for the enamel, both ppg. The truck has been sitting since 1986 and buffed out incredibly well but unfortunately I have some body work to do so I'm going to have to paint.

Re: 1970 correct paint

So I constantly hear about acrylic enamel being a low grade paint. The paint on my truck imo seems to be tough as nails and of high quality. It's doesn't scratch easily at all and shines unbelievably well when waxed for being 47 years old. Are todays acrylic enamels different from the ones being used in 1970? I love the look of it but I'm always being told it's junk and won't last.

Re: 1970 correct paint

I just painted mine with acrylic enamel. My only complaint is that it takes a ton of effort to cut and buff it. It's a great looking paint job and seems to be an extremely tough paint.
