Powder coated tow hooks for sale
Well every now and then I get to rummage around Blackbirds Custom Trucks for little odds and ends..
And then I came across these They are factory 67-72 tow hooks.. They have been Powder coated and have little surface scratches from being moved around.. He said he would take $325.00 for them plus S&H..

O.K.
This is NOT a price b**ch. This is a question.......
Who is willing to pay that much money for for a set of tow hooks? Am I the only one who see's the problem with this? I dont even want a set on my Blazer.....if I did ....I'd get a set off of a Semi Truck...there much heavier duty. Are these things that rare...or is there something else I'm missing here? If the gentleman asking that much for those hooks get them....good for him......I need to start a new business.

It's all a perceved value thang. I used to dream about going to look at the '67 chevy for sale in the newspaper for $500, to find out it is a 427 'Vette, now I dream about going to a garage sale and finding a big box full of tow hooks and factory 8-track players.

I sold a set of factory 71-72 tow hooks about 6 weeks ago for
$ 165.00 Now they are selling for $100.00 higher than that. They will probably be selling for $325.00 in a couple of months. Remember- It's not what they're worth-It's what people are willing to pay.

Another thing
Look.....I've seen these hooks start at about $50.00 a few years back....now there $325 on up. That's the way things work....I know that. What I'm asking is what's the mystique? What am I missing? There tow hooks......things that on most of these trucks will never be used.....well...maybe half anyway. Like I said before.....I'm not questioning his price.....or the link's price....I am questioning the drive behind these skyrocketing prices behind towhooks...plain and simple......panties seem to get wadded up around here at the drop of a hat...or question in this case.
Free market economy....free speech....great things huh? Thanks.

Never meant to start this kind of post
My boss and I have been seeing hooks go from 150 to 250.. then you have to figure in that these are POWDER COATED.. That ain't cheap.. These are a very nice set for someone who has a show rig or in fact any truck.. That is why the price... I have yet to speak my mind on the website about the way people react to threads posted, but the day is coming close.. I know many of us were taught. If you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all... This isn't directed to anyone that has posted on this thread..So please don't retalliate to me on this thread.. Heck these aren't even my hooks or my price..

He's right
I PM'ed the guy who started this thread. He simply was trying to pass on some info on hooks...plain and simple.
I forget how times have changed....and there's rules for everything now. I wont do it again.

I think you can price your stuff for whatever you want too. You never know someone is always wanting these. Good luck, Randy

While $325 is alittle high, I think they would sell on ebay. Several years ago. My buddy and I went to the Turkey run in Daytona. We were walking through the parts and he said to the guy selling stuff. "How much for the fan shroud?" $2 , The guy said. My buddy just bought a perfect BB fan shrould for one of these trucks for $2. I counldn't belive that I missed it. Well while my buddy pay's for the shrould, What do you know, A set of tow hooks! I ask how much. The guy say's $10. Needless to say I bought them. It was a good day. Wes.

i understand what patch is questioning...it just so happened to be brought up in this thread. i wonder how many trucks came factory equipped with hooks? and why does everyone want a set for their truck? (myself, it is because the originals are missing...i'd like them back). I also know that alot of guys just wont use them at all, they are just there to be there. if you were just going for function, you could buy a chrome set from GMC paul or use a set off a medium truck. and towhooks are something most people would overlook if they were making a mental list of rare and collectible truck parts. because hooks are hooks. oh well, i will probably still pay $200+ for a set because I'm not lucky enough to find one. (sigh)

You need to come to Phx to get them powder coated. I had a set coated for $15 last year.

I'm sticking up for the 4x4 guys here, you all ask why do you want hooks, well why do some of you 2wd guys want tach, tilt, headliner etc in your truck? You add all that up you spend more on that than guys who want to hooks. TOWHOOKS ARE NEAT and original, to each there own. Thanks Randy

Well I gotta say I started to think this was a bad price for these hooks. But I then saw the other thread that posted this ebay auction
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=10076 You know our business isn't that big, but we do pretty well at it.. A few calls from people on this site prove that we know what we're doing. I might have done better to put these on Ebay. But I have done pretty well for the couple of things I have sold on here( Thanks Wes from www.ClassicHeartbeat.com).. It came real close to not ever sharing anything we have to sell on this sight for 67-72 rigs we get in. I didn't understand at first how so many post got on here.. You know you can't do that in your for sale page in the Sunday news, So why do it here to someone selling stuff.. But I understand the places where everyone lives has diferent prices for things that are sold on here.. But not everyone lives where you live.. Thanks again for the time you take to look at this thread Remember for your rear disk brake kit needs go to Blackbirds Cutom Trucks

Well, Im a 4x4 guy and a 2x4 guy. But....... The way I see it is sell them for what you can get. If the going rate is $50, then be happy with $50. Now I see its gone over the $300 range. If it gets much more than that, you can buy and install a winch on the front and really pull yourself out, along with it looking cool also.
For the record, Ive had 4x4's with tac dashes and tilts. I think the tow hook thing is getting way out of hand. I think Im going to sit on the set I just aquired in Calif and see if it hits $500. This may be better than real estate. I thought that the Blazer fuel skid plates were worth alot but, not too many guys asking for one anymore. I sold one last week to a board member at a fair price. i just hope that it ends up on his Blazer and not Ebay............ Just my 6.25 cents worth Last edited by Phillip Johnson; 10-27-2003 at 02:27 AM. |
