A quick look at the 67's chrome grille shelves

I couldn't stand it anymore i had to get a quick look at the grille shelves I had chromed , This is just a quick mock up don't pay any attention to the gaps it's just lightly held in place , The aluminum grille hoops and light bezels will also be replaced with chrome plated steel parts as soon as they come back from the chrome shop . That's just buff epoxy primer but I'm really leaning towards that color paint .

I looked into that for my '70 grill.
It's expensive!!

Well, the grille shelves were $160.00 each
the grille hoops were $200.00 each
the headlight bezels were $100.00 each
_________
$920.00 total

That was with fixing some dings before chrome. So it wasn't to bad for the chroming but add in what I have in the steel parts and it's a little pricey

Thats a 67 flip seat bottom that someone tried to beef up with a bunch of steel plate welded together rather than fix the springs . No problem I have all the parts to fix it right back to original condition .

That does look fantastic! Would you know what type of plating that was actually done. I know everyone says chrome yet there is many types of it.

I here the triple nickle finishes are the best. And if I know anything what so ever that the nickle is actually a brighter blue tint than some of the regular chrome which has a yellow tint and reflects a more black in certain lighting scenarios.

my 1968 longhorn had chrome ones I thought it was a rare option.To find ones in chrome my where pealing and bubbling.It looks good.I have the chrome steel grill on my 1972 3/4 on

Yes, semi-gloss black was standard on trucks with a white face, silver on trucks with metallic light blue face.

I've never seen anyone chrome them before so I had too , Yes, There's a lot of detail paintwork going into this truck under the hood and I've changed colors in my head more than a few times But I like the clean look of this buff primer and I wanted something that would just look close to original yellow and that is a little lighter / pale than how the buff color shows .just a nice clean look to it .This truck is going to Florida when it's done to live on the beach towing my flats boat and the occasional beach bar

The pictures don't do them justice it really pops when you walk up to it !

I'll have to do a few test panels and clear them to see how it looks

Now I have to choose between green or the smoke tinted glass for it

Awesome, it's all white at the moment.
Now we have a project.
Still considering a white half of the tailgate to match the face.

My '68 C/10 Stepside is a Fremont truck. In some spots, where the OEM colors are wearing off, like the semi-gloss black on the edges of the radiator bulkhead, a bright light green, looking like Zinc Chromate, is showing up.
I've had this truck since 1973. The guy my PO [a Sgt] bought the truck from was the Camp Pendleton RC Chaplain, who had 'Nam orders and had to sell ASAP. The Good Padre, was a Navy Captain [O-6] equal to a full-bird Colonel.
I've always wondered if the Padre had enough pull to get naval aircraft primer shot on his new truck? Or did he wangle a pickup, intended as an orange ''Follow Me'' flight line truck, from some penitent in his flock?
I inherited a full set of Chassis Service and Overhaul Manuals, and an OD canvas duck torpedo tube cover [~2' x 3'] as an engine cover to keep the Southern California coastal chill off the 292 L6.
In AZ smoked glass all-around is illegal. Back Window only is OK.

I keep coming back to this thread checking out the chrome. Close to a grand for just the chrome not including the parts. I wonder what they charge out here for the same job? Ill have to toss a hoop and a bezel in my car, and next time I'm by the localish chrome shop Ill have to get a quote.
