RUSTY 60 Apache Custom Short Fleet

Just picked up a 60 Apache Custom Short Fleet Custom ---- the problem I have is it is there is a lot more rust than I expected........ the entire lower cab is bad: rockers, floors, cab supports, cab corners and lower door pillars and while cruising down I-40 in TN with it on my trailer ---- the outer roof panel peeled back (not an issue I have a roof panel) ---- inner roof panel is good. The truck does run and drive.
The good news : all the Custom trim is there with only 3-4 dings in some passenger side pieces. I had planned a patina build for this truck but thinking my options are replace cab, part out (bad word) or sell it "as-is".
What do you guys think?? Here are some pictures.

Personally, I would keep the truck and fix it. If everything between the floor and roof is good, I would consider fixing that cab. That is unless you can find a near perfect '60-'62 cab. In case you were not aware, you can now buy in the aftermarket a complete floor as well as a whole outer roof panel

I love the look of that truck! Sounds like a lot of work to get it safe, but my vote is to fix the cab unless you come across a good one...like Capt said. I love that paint scheme too...how the green runs on the top side of the body lines. Was that just an option for the earlier model 60's trucks?

Re: RUSTY 60 Apache Custom Short Fleet

Guys, thanks for input --- I actually have access to a couple cabs but really wanted to preserve the patina. Guess I should bite the bullet and do the rust repair --- maybe later.

Captain, I am aware of full floorpans for 64-66 --- could be made to work with 60. I have a couple cabs with good outer roof panels....

The paint scheme was good on 60 & 61s --- I like it a lot also...

I would find a good cab or spend a fortune fixing yours . Even after you fix yours very little will be left of your "patina" cab. You can paint "patina" if you know what your doing. Rust in your cab will haunt you forever . With the trim package and short bed you have one of the most desirable trucks there is . Not so long ago there was a member that had a very nice 60-63 Cab on this forum for sale. I believe it was in the $600 dollar range . A bargain in my book. Hopefully you frame is solid. Never saw run so rusty the roof blew off on the way home. Great truck to build even in patina, but in my opinion switch the cab and maybe the doors and front fenders . Neat old truck with super rare trim . A set of trim sold on ebay a while back for $2200 . High but some one paid it.

I'd find a better cab and build it. Beautiful truck!

I would restore it! You have a great color combo and looks like a good truck. my 62 looked the same when I first bought it. I would first wash it with CLR and a green scrub pad to get some of the surface rust. Then you can decide what you want to do.

I looked at that truck, considered it, had to pass because of the rust issues. Good luck to you, bring it back if possible !
