1961 Throttle pedal "cruise control"?
Hey guys, in my 61 K20 my throttle pedal has two "settings".
You can pull the pedal rod out with your foot and it will actuate the throttle on the carb more to give it more gas, but if you floor it, it will stay farther down and won't give as much passing power, but is at a much easier angle to hold down on long trips. Is this normal? |

Re: 1961 Throttle pedal "cruise control"?
Not sure about a 61 but there's a weekend fix for a nice comfortable throttle pedal on those long trips. Well - provided you can get a 67 - 72 C-10 throttle pedal assembly out of a wrecking yard, craigslist or eBay. Well worth the time & effort in my opinion. For me it's now an absolute pleasure to drive my 64 on those long trips. Oh, I even added a thicker bumper stop for the brake pedal so I don't have to raise my leg just to hit the brakes. All these things including grafting a 73 Power brake pedal assembly to my 64 I blatantly stole from other members off this board. I'm sure glad there's a bunch of people here a lot smarter than I am & willing to share their ideas with the rest of us.
Next up for me is adding a 72 Cadillac emergency brake pedal that will release itself as soon as the truck is dropped into gear - D or R. An actual idea I thought of - only because I happen to own a 71 Cadillac Commercial. |

Since I too have pretty mush been following your example on these items, can you provide more information on the brake pedal bumper please? Which one, where purchased etc. I have been thinking of that for some time.
You the Man!

Re: 1961 Throttle pedal "cruise control"?
Master Chief, You Bet. If I remember correctly I got the bumper from Lowe's or Home Depot. It wasn't black but a cream color with a stud through it & I did have to shave the bumper down a bit. I have to go to Lowe's Saturday and I'll take a look & see if I can find it. I'll try & snap a photo of my in the truck bumper and see if that helps too. Oh, I also had to shorten my booster to pedal rod to add a little bit of free play to the brake pedal.
