1972 gmc jimmy front and rear axle interchangeable later model

Anybody know if it is an easy swap to swap later model square body blazer front and rear diffs? My front dana 60 needs a new pinion bearing and was quoted $670 to replace.I can get blazer axles near me ( dana 44 and rear 12 bolt) from an 86 for 200 bucks that are in good shape and not going to last.

That is the route I went rather than changing gears. I changed to a HD44 out of a 1975 K20 and a rear D60 out of a ford. it was all bolt up with the exception of the e brake cables that I had to get creative. You shouldn't have this problem with the 14 bolt. The only draw back to the 14 bolt over the D60 is a minor loss of ground clearance opinions differ but I'd say they are comparable strength wise. You will likely be going to an 8 bolt wheel pattern so factor in wheels and tires as well.

Today I took the front driveshaft out and took it for a ride and it still clunked when I let off the gas doesn't do it when in neutral just when I'm driving it. I can feel it through the shifter sm465, np205 transfercase.

Is there a way to check the sleeve between trans and transfercase without lowering whole assembly and separating

Put trans in high gear transfer case in 2 hi jack up rear end. See how much transfer case rear yoke moves. You could also take PTO covers off and see if there is any slop between transfer case input gear and trans main shaft.
