guaranteed carburetors
Is anyone here familiar with Guaranteed Carburetors and Butch Fernandes? I am thinking of buying a new carb for my truck as the current one is a problem. Rebuilding them myself has proven several times to be... just a very bad idea. His prices seem good and they're very prompt in answering questions.
So, anyone? |

Re: guaranteed carburetors
I gave up on my carburetor.
I went with a Fitech. Starts first crank every time.

Re: guaranteed carburetors
Didn't mean to hijack your post. It was for LostMy65 to see if he could post more info on Fitech carb.
I'm not familiar with the carb site you mentioned but I do agree that some of these carbs can be a bear to rebuild. I've done a few but mostly because I started with carbs in good shape already. Worn throttle shafts and corrosion are some of the bigger problems with these old carbs.

I can lead a horse to water, but it's up to the horse to drink....

Re: guaranteed carburetors
The best option for you may be to buy an edelbrock and just use fuel stabilizer for the ethanol.

As to the horse, if one puts something in their water on a regular basis, like cider vinegar, then add it to away-from-home water, they'll drink every time. I know, way too much info... Otherwise, your comment is lost on me. |

Re: guaranteed carburetors
I have never heard of guaranteed carbs but if they answer the phone and answer questions that is a good sign. I bought a carb on ebay last year and the guy said it was rebuilt by ??? and they did a lousy job and it didn't work on his 'vette. I bought it for $75 and it works great on my Camaro. Go figure. I figure it's always a crap shoot.
I run ethanol gas in all my bikes, sleds and cars and never notice any problems. The carbs on my bike have never been apart since it was built in 1983 and it's still the quickest V65 in the country. It does get Stabilized every year. My lawnmower doesn't always get Stabilized and it did get jelled up. I am gaining a new appreciation for Edelbrock carbs and losing appreciation for small primaries/big secondaries. I just put an Edelbrock on my Cadillac and those bigger primaries make it feel so much more powerful.

What kind of carburetor are you using now? If it is a Rochester is it the factory original?
