mouse smell

This has nothing to do with my truck,but it may apply to someones truck.I bought a car that had been sitting for 7 years,the smell of mouse pee was awful.I took out the seats and carpet,then power washed the inside and carpet,put it back in,but in a coupe weeks the smell was back,is there a fix?

Rent an ozone generator...heard that works well.

My truck when I go it was mouse nest and I ended up tossing everything from the inside...nothing was worth saving anyways. It still smelled until I cleaned it out with germicidal cleaner, hosed it down, then wire wheeled all the surface rust off. I think most of the remaining smell was absorbed in the surface rust.

Rust Bullet paint did the chore for me. I purple powered the inside and scrubbed it down like crazy, hosed it out, still smelled. Once I started painting the inside, the smell disappeared.

I've got an OT donor rig at the house that reeks of mice. It's going to the junk yard in a couple of weeks after it donates.

when I had rental property I bought a Product called - KILZ, it was a paint and I used it to cover Cat Urine. It worked great for that application. I don't know if it would help on a vehicle but it might be worth a try.

still haven't installed the seat, getting new foam and covering.. but the smell is very minimal with the surface rust left.. that's the next step before the new rubber mat and seat install.. planning to sand it all smooth and coat the floor pan.. maybe replace some metal later but trying to preserve as much of the original truck as possible

We sometimes have odor issues on our special needs buses. We use an industrial product from Kimball Midwest called Zymex that also gets rid of mouse smell. I know this because mice love to build a nest behind the back seat in my '36 every winter.

Previously I have used pet urine odor remover available at Wal-Mart. It was also effective but required much larger doses.

Mine sat for years and the mice took almost all the original horsehair and cotton stuffing out of the seats to build huge nests underneath. Stench was overwhelming. Between the pee. poop and dead ones i had to go in about level 1 protection and remove everything. The covers, residual padding and piles of mouse nest and bits burned. The cab and seat metal power washed and "rust -stopped" before repairing and recovering. Think the pee actually caused some of the metal and springs to deteriorate.

Might add due to the lift (see link pics) the deer used it everynight as a motel. The coons and cats would sleep in the engine compartment. Damn things would suddenly jump up, slam their heads hard on the chassis, hood or bed and tear out for the brush when disturbed. Deer/rodent borne disease, fleas and ticks are another reason i went with sanitizing the cab and burning the debris.
