sbc mounting location on frame rails

Hey guys im trying to find out which location on the frame rails is the proper spot for a sbc 350 or 283 1965 c10 column shift auto truck ? From most pics that ive saw it looks to be the rearward holes on frame rail?
Ive just swapped in a built up 350 i had laying around in my shop from my chevelle into my truck and the old 350 that was in there was mounted in the rear holes on frame rail but the hei distributer is very close to firewall. It also has a t350 tranny which the cross member looks factory but not totally sure. It still has some clearance at distributer and i can adjust it but was thinking of moving engine ahead to the front holes for more clearance and take up some of the space in front of radiator as there is alot of room.
Not sure if its worth it getting a new driveshaft made up but be nice to get rid of the two piece shaft and steady bearing
What have most of you guys done when swapping in a sbc ? Thx in advance

I like the forward mounts, more room for hei ,tall valve covers ,easier to change plugs, changing the flex plate ......Name: IMG_20170628_213601968.jpg

Forward holes for V-8.
Rear holes for inline 6-cylinder.

I'm using the rear two holes with the POL engine to frame mounts. I have already mocked up my engine and trans and have no clearance issues. If I'm not mistaken the rear holes were the original ones used on a V-8. With a short water pump and fan shroud with a clutch fan you will have no issues with over heating.

My 62 283/3speed was horse shoe mount to the rear. The 400 fit fine with hei in rear position. I switched over to MSD ready to run. And Porterbuilt suspension moves everything up and fwd 2" I also run a 2 piece shaft on short bed because of x frame clearance

I used forward mounts with POL. I am also running HEI and a serpentine with a huge 4 core radiator.

Re: sbc mounting location on frame rails

Thanks for the info guys! I think ill leave it in the rear stock location I like the thought of having the weight further back. I'll either update the steady bearing later or get a one piece driveshaft made up when the time comes. I changed the steady bearing out not long ago and it doesnt look like it will last long the previous owner cut the bed/frame made it a short for me and the front driveshaft was shortened but looks terrible
