Lights going out

Hey All,

My high beams go out after being on for a few minutes, I can't really pinpoint whats causing it... It doesn't seem like a low voltage as I would think they would dim out first, maybe a heat issue with the wiring, but they wouldn't come back on after toggling the switch... I'm lost.

1960 C10 Short Step.

Mike

Re: Lights going out

Are your low beams still working? If so, it could be the dimmer switch.

Re: Lights going out

Yeah, if I click it back to low beams they come back on.

I can also go right back to the highs and they work again for a few seconds then go out.

Re: Lights going out

Dimmer switch, or the wiring going to it. Look and see if any of the wires are melted.
Could also be the headlight switch itself.
I've had both go out on me.

I think it might be the wiring, it was a mess under the dash. The light switch is new(ish) and in good shape... the dimmer switch is also new(ish).

Are the complete kits from LMC worth a damn?

Re: Lights going out

I can't speak to the LMC kits, but I put an American AutoWire kit in my Suburban, and couldn't be happier with it.

(correction: I don't like the plastic light bulb sockets for the instrument cluster wiring harness. The next one I install will re-use the original metal sockets)

Re: Lights going out

Not sure what you mean by hds, I just got the truck last month and am trying to sort out all the things the previous owner did and didn't do well.
