1980 Factory Tach install

Hey Guys

I want to install a factory tach in my truck. I see a package offered that has a printed circuit board and a fuel gauge. So just installing the circuit board and gauges is this a direct "bolt on" modification? Has anyone installed one of these? Will the gas gauge work with the sending unit already in the tank?

Thanks for any info on how to do this modification thanks

Re: 1980 Factory Tach install

I assume this is for 1970 and the 1980 in the title is just a typo ... otherwise you'll probably get a better answer in the 73-87 forums.

The factory style tach kits typically include the tach itself (not a gas gauge), along with the printed circuit, and cluster tins that need to be swapped out for the install. All of the other gauges (including the gas gauge) remain unchanged so there shouldn't be any issues there. Of course, you have to be starting out with a "7 hole" gauge cluster since the "3 hole" warning light clusters won't accept a factory tach. If your truck currently has the warning light cluster, you'll have to make some additional changes to the wiring to swap over to the factory gauge cluster (with or without the tach).
