Rams horn manifolds

I thought I saw one time a set of Rams horn manifolds that would accept an A/C compressor, but I believe they were for the 67/72 models. Would they work for a 73/80 with an A6 compressor?
Does anybody know where I could acquire a set?
if in fact they do.

I bought a new set of 2 1/2" Chicom Rams Horns at Pate this yr & they both have the bracket on them to mount something, A/C comp or wind mill I don't know...

The bracket on the 2.5" models is for a mid-1960s generator.

For a pickup you really need the ram's horns with angled outlets to clear the crossmember. However, I don't know if they would clear your compressor, since they rise up much higher than the 73-87 "log type".

thanks guys. Upon further investigation I noticed that my A/C comp has a rear support mount which bolts between the 2nd and 3rd bolt hole and the Rams horn ain't gonna make it. So I guess its the log style or maybe some headers and make spacers for the rear support.
Gotta have my A/C it is Texas you know.

This is a common misconception. Straight dump 2.5 ram horns clear fine. I put them on every 67-72 I built over the past 20 years. 2x4, 4x4. Now with that said, the kick backs do allow for less of a bend at the start of the exhaust pipe and i will certainly give them a try on one of my next builds!.

Interesting. I had a pair of the 2.5" Dormans that would have required a very tight radius bend on my old 69 C10. I am partial to large mandrel bends, and doubt one could be made that tight. The larger the radius the better! However, those manifolds would have worked on a K10, because the engine was mounted farther back.

On my 82 C10, I might have been able to make them fit had I notched the motor mount clam shells, but would have had the same issue with the tight bends.

If the OP needs manifolds, I have these sitting on the shelf. They're for a 96-up 350. I used them on my 82 C10 for a year or so before I switched to headers. What I like about them is they don't have air injection ports. The stub pipes and flanges are 2-1/4".

Were you able to use the stock pipes from an 82 with these manifolds? I am going to replace the 305 I my 86 and want to remove injection pump etc and those manifolds looked really good on yours.

No, I modified the head pipes in a 73-87 Heartthrob Exhaust kit using extra pipes and mandrel bends that were included for long wheelbase trucks. But any muffler shop can make the connections.

96-up trucks use a Y pipe with CATs and probably wouldn't fit an 73-87 anyway.

I have a factory 2wd 78 Blazer and asked a friend to swap some 2.5" ram horn manifolds from the old headers. I was in the process of moving so it would have been a perfect time. He came back a week later and said they wouldn't fit.... They were Speedway Motors smoothie that dump straight down...

54Caddy -- That is a very nice installation, at least on the passenger side. Do you know if he had to notch the driver side clam shell to clear the manifold flange?

And I wonder what the driver's side head pipe bend looks like. On my 82 C10, it would have been a severe bend starting right at the flange to clear the crossmember.

No he says in thread that he didn’t have to notch motor mounts. Passenger side he did change to a mini starter since OEM style was bad so I’m sure that helped with clearance a bit. Drivers side I’m sure has a crazy bend to it but that’s all just in finding an exhaust shop that knows what they’re doing.

Roger Lynsky of RPL built a custom Y pipe and we ran a single 2.5" pipe back to a large mouth CAT followed by a SI/SO Flowmaster with a tailpipe that ran to the rear of the truck. There were no clearance issues, and no crazy bends in the pipe. The sound was nice a smooth till you nailed it and then it talked nasty.

Later when we installed the 4 link, I had to cut the system shorter to clear. Now its just loud, and doesnt sound as clean. I plan to make changes to that soon.

So I have a 78 factory 2WD with a SBC. I used a late model factory mini starter. I have a serpentine belt setup so I should be OK with the ram horn manifolds?

Would you recommend studs for the manifolds? Have a part number? I would guess Dorman should make some...
