lookin for sum insight on 4 6 drop

was thinkin on droppin my truck (66 shorty fleet) can get 3 5 or 4 6 drop kit for same price. comes with springs,shocks, shock relocators, adj track bar. pretty much everything except c notch.....(which i hear conflicting stories as to whether its necessary or not)?? is a 4 6 kit too much? will springs /shocks,etc...be all i need? never dropped a truck before. is an alignment neccesary after install? any other concerns i should be aware of? i appreciate any help or guidance. thanks fellers!

6" drop will need the c-notch in the frame!

Some people have problems with 6 inches in the rear and others don't. You might want to do drop spindles in the front and drop coils. You will have to switch to disc brakes up if you do but it will give you better geometry and much better braking. You might want to just do a 4\5 drop using a 4 in drop coil and a 1 in drop block and see how you like it. You could always install a 2 inch block later. By using a 4 in coil and drop blocks it will keep your shocks at a better angle in the rear and that way you might not have to relocate your rear shock mounts. You will have to get your alignment done up front after everything is installed. Also you could install the 4 inch drop coils in the rear and then put something heavy in the bed to see how much lower you want it.

I have a 5 7 drop with a c notch. Its hard to see but i have about 1 1/2 before axle is in the frame.

Im trynna shy away from changing the spindles.....$$... the kit im lookin at is from western chassis. Round $520 shipped. Will dropping the front 4" with springs and shock relocators cause an issue with the steering geometry??....and hope its not a Silly question....but whats difference in using drop springs vs lowering blocks? My brain says yer still dropping (x) amount of inches?? Wouldnt using blocks screw with the spring rate? Jus askin cause i dont know much about suspension stuff.. Thanks again!����

I wouldn't recommend going down 4" in front without spindles. If $$ is an issue, go with a 2"-4" drop. Get the lowering coils for the rear, no need for a c-notch with 4". Then for now, if you're on a budget, take a cutoff wheel and cut off about a coil and an half of the front coil... BAM! Budget coolness.

The Mule is A 4.5 m (2.5 spindles, 2" drop springs)/ 6 (6" springs and shock re-locator)drop, no c-notch. All my stuff is an ece drop set up. I do have to watch big dips as it will occasionally bottom out, but normally no issues. The cut down bump-stops fell out and I have yet to replace them. I am thinking about adding a c-notch, but normally can't stop driving it to do any work on it.

You were able to drop the rear 7 inches and was able to keep the stock track bar? Does it drive well? I am thinking of doing the same thing.

You will need a new track bar. I needed one with a 4 inch drop. You will definitely need one with a 7.

Here's mine for reference. 4-5(?)" drop in the front. Not sure really. I think I cut 1.75 coils off. The rear is 8" using 2" blocks and 6" springs.

No notch yet. You can see how close the axle is to the frame. The truck isn't officially on the road yet, but I've had it on some back roads around 30mph or so with no issue. The springs are fairly firm so I *think* I'll be ok. I have no delusions about hauling anything or being able to play Luke Duke, but that's not what this truck is for.

Ok thanks. I was thinking about droping my rear 6 inches (4 inch springs, 2 inch blocks) or 7 inches but didn't know if a new track bar was really needed.

4" Front drop springs are a bad idea IMO. My 3" drop springs will come loose when I jack my truck up. They arent tall enough to stay in spring pockets correctly. Yes an alignment is required after lowering one any.

And your rear wheels have not been pushed to one side? Have you measured between the backs of the drums and the frame rails to see if your axle is still centered?

No the rear wheels haven't been pushed to the side. Yeah the axle is still centered. I will post a pic when I get home later today.
