1970 2wd blazer production number

I know that they only produced 985 2wd Blazers in 1970 but was wounder if any of you have an idea of the first 2wd blazer production number that rolled out . I have owned a 70 2wd for about 8 years now and am finally getting around to putting it all back together.I was looking at the vin# and noticed it ends in 106300. I believe that makes it the 6,300 blazer made that year but what was the first 2wd number?

I don't know but I wouldn't trade mine for anything less rare than an original Yenko!!!!

For sure 👍🏻. I couldn't imagine there are very many original 1970 2wd still out there .

Does 985 include GMC's?

Not sure but i would assume there was even less GMC's made. We can turn this into a who has a original 1970 2wd Blazer or Jimmy thread or start a new one?
Maybe include last 5 of vin so we don't get duplicates and some pics of the Blazer or Jimmy.

My 1970 2wd Blazer VIN ends with 138946 and has a build date in Dec of 1969 according to the sticker on the driver's door. I always believed that the ending numbers were a sequence for that particular assembly plant, and that included everything that went down that line. Meaning pickups, Blazers, and Suburbans, both 2wd and 4x4. According to production numbers that I have seen they only made 12,512 Blazers in 1970, both 4x4 and 2wd, so obviously they hadn't made 38,946 Blazers by Dec of 1969.

I assume that your Blazer was assembled in St. Louis as I believe they all were until 1972. If so, you have one of the first, if not THE first 2wd Blazer ever made since you have that low of a sequence number! Unfortunately, I don't believe that could ever be proven or disproven due to lack of records from back then.

BTW, we are going to need some pics of said Blazer! Does it still have the SPID on the glovebox door?

Good info , Here is a couple pics that i have on my phone. Body currently at the body shop getting painted and frame is headed back over this weekend to put everything back together again. I should have everything somewhere its just a matter of finding it.

You are correct.

VINs do not correlate between final assembly locations. The sequential portion of the VIN (more or less) increments up with the order of build.

Some plants have an accumulator, or body bank, after the body shop (before paint) and after paint (before trim), which allows shuffling the build order based on operator workload or lack of availability of parts. (Can't have too many stick shifts in a row, can't have to many a/c jobs in a row, can't have too many cab running lights in a row, etc).

Fremont is an example of a plant that built straight through (no accumulators). I do not recall if St Louis built straight through or not.

Yep - pure speculation. The only way to know would be to have been standing there when the trucks went by.

So I take it they didn't keep good records of what and when something rolled out back then? Does anyone have any info if the 985 includes Jimmys?

GM Truck kept good records back then but they burned in a fire.

GM Canada still has good records. If a vehicle was built in Canada or built in the US for Canadian usage then build information can be accessed through GM of Canada vintage vehicle services http://www.vintagevehicleservices.com/options.html

Pontiac Division set the standard in this regard with Pontiac Historic Services. But that was a "happy accident". They were saved primarily as financial records; the fact that they were a boon to enthusiasts was totally unintentional.

Domestic vehicle information can be obtained through the GM Heritage Center, for vehicles starting in 1976 or 1977

I just found a very nice but apart 2 wheel 1970. Still has original motor seats ect, was a 4 speed but is long gone. So the question is do I restore it back to original with automatic or upgraded to LS? I was looking and really wanting a 4 wheel but guess I'll settle on the 2 wheel drive. Whats everyone's thoughts?

The demand on blazers is high right now, if you truly want a 4wd buy the 2wd and trade up. The demand for 2wds is even higher, they are converting 4x4s to 2wd all the time. If you buy the 2wd post a trade for 4x4 on Facebook and your phone will blow up, be prepared. If you have a particular color in made just state you are willing to trade for that color. I'm sure you will get you 4x4 and some cash to boot if your lucky!
