6 to v8 swap
I would like to introduce myself. sort of. I've been on the board a while in the 47-59 forum. Barry (59yo) and my son Max (17) from NC.
my son bought him a 66 c10 because he wanted something different than the ol man. no problem with that but will jump to the question 66 c10, 292 6cyl 3 on tree. have bought a 350 and had Muncie 4sp laying around. so going to swap it. but want to know what some of you have done and if you would do it different? I have a set of v8 motor mount brackets for the frame and i think the 292 bell housing will bolt to the 350 so can I put a flywheel/clutch kit on the 350 and just bolt it in with the different motor mount holes in the frame? will the hei distributor clear the firewall? and then just swap the trans? and then there is the frame mounts that move the motor forward and a bolt in trans cross member that does away with the bellhousing mounts. and then I will have to go with a different 1 piece driveshaft am I correct on these 2 different approaches? This is a budget build keep that in mind thank's for advice |

Re: 6 to v8 swap
The swap will be fine with the standard bell housing and the V8 stands. The HEI will fit fine and it is a little tight but it does clear. So no need to move the motor forward. Good looking truck. Has it had the master cylinder upgrade to a split system? If not that is the first thing I would do.

Re: 6 to v8 swap
I had a metal brake line go from rust inside the fitting in a 64 I had and wrecked the truck when it went. The lines looked pretty good until I started pulling them apart. I wont drive one with out the upgrade. It is an easy project for the two of you and really improves the safety.
